If phones become better than "cameras", then we'll use phones -- what's the difference? There will always be cameras of some kind and they will keep getting more and more capable technically. But whatever they can put in a tiny phone, they will always be able to put something better in a stand-alone bigger package if you are willing to carry it. (Our cameras are also slowly getting phone features as well.) So if "cameras" exclusively become the tool of photographers and not tourists, etc, the world won't end. I think where the big camera players are missing out is not putting out phone camera tech and getting their branding on phones. (i.e. "the new iPhone with camera by Nikon")
