Panasonic LX100 or Leica D-Lux Type 109 - any thoughts

Now that this has been out a while - any thoughts out there?

Of course, the GX8 and G7 are coming out soon :-)

Here are some pretty comprehensive thoughts on the 109 from our illustrious leader:

I have a thought - Ricoh GR! Larger sensor, super intuitive user interface, snap focus, and a hot shoe OVF if necessary 😃.

And useless 3×2 sensor factor, which is a struggling format for photography, widely accepted for the only reason the stupidiest solutions always wins (as software developer I can also remember Unix, C, C++, Windows, etc as perfect examples of this).

Nice troll.

Of course, nothing worthwhile has ever been produced by a 3x2 sensor... or Unix, C++, or... Emacs (the editor).

There are great programs and utilities written in such a sh1tty programing language as C. But this doesn't mean this error prone nonsense should be extensively used.

Emacs is far from perect. It just suits me well so I write everything in it. Think about 3×2 as a kind of Emacs forced by the industry to every user. Good thing they are all in decline, so once their systems will be dead and there's a possibility the new one will appear, without shortcomings that are so typical for current manufacturers who lives now and still think about cameras in terms of 60s.

Yep, it's a big mistake to feed them. Not only do they hang around forever.....they multiply!

I agree that 2 out of them are stupid.

But Unix and C??? Stop this profanity, and go and wash your mouth!

vi forever :-) I think I'll go and hug my PDP11 now.

I have the lx100, I need the grip and have no leica love. The video on this thing is gorgeous! The lens is ok to great, image quality needs good light. Anything smaller I wouldn't bother with tbh.

This thread went in a strange direction.

I've had the LX100 since early December and I love it. Fantastic little camera. And if you hate the 3:2 ratio, you can shoot 4:3, 16:9 or 1:1 if your heart so desires. I shoot in 16:9 most of the time. I wanted a great all-in-one package, and it fits the bill. Lens is great and versatile, the focus is snappy, and I like all the physical controls.
