Nikon vs Canon Lens Prices

Is it my imagination but here in South Africa, Nikon has gone mad with their lens prices compared to Canon

I'm finally looking at upgrading to Nikon D750 but the Nikon FF lens prices are ridiculous next to Canon.

Canon seems to have a much vaster and versatile lens line up at far more affordable prices.

Damn

I think Nikon lens prices are higher than Canon in every country.
There is the option of third-party lenses, of course.

Nikon does have some of the spendiest lenses out there for sure. On the other hand they make some of the most cheaply made lenses too. They also do not guarantee 3rd party lenses will work with their camera bodies. Lots of Nikonians love the Tamron trio, e.g., 15-30, 24-70, and 70-200.

If you want to buy current Nikon lenses and keep the price down some, consider their f1.8 line. Some are pretty good. The f1.8 line of lenses typically has 7 rounded aperture blades instead of 9 on their f1.4 lenses as a means of product differentiation and are usually much lighter and somewhat smaller.

I think the mad prices are due to the weakening of the Rand....

Even the Nikon f/1.8 lenses have insane prices except the 50 1.8 and 35 1.8DX.
