flash sync

So I had a thread a while back about why cant pentax make their flash sync faster than 1/180. And today I just found out Fujifilm who was also stuck at 1/180 made the sync on the x-pro 2 1/250. Come one pentax. If the K-1 is still 1/180 ill be very disappointed

The X-PRO2 is APS-C, the K-1 will be full frame. You're expecting a shutter with nearly twice the mass and area to cover to be just as fast? I find it curious that Fuji never rate the durability of their shutter mechanisms on their cameras - there is probably a good reason for that.

I know people get passionate about this but the difference between 1/180 1/250 still seems (to me) rather trivial. Remind me why this is so important?

I did look at some other specs and it seems Nikon d610 and D750 only sync at 1/200. But then some places it says they can go to 1/250 or 1/320 using a special reduced power mode. Not sure I understand that correctly though. And elsewhere I read that some cameras can go higher, even 1/500 but only by using an electronic shutter.

So why is that 1/3 of a stop so important?

something about spec sheets and being the same as everyone else.

This only works properly with Nikon flashes: and even then the bottom of the frame gets rather dim at 1/320th.

Electronic shutters don't have any mass, so they don't have the speed limitations of physical shutters. Though at present the rolling shutter effect is quite problematic, Global shutters which don't suffer from this effect will be the next big thing - because that means we can do away with the shutter mechanism altogether, and flash will sync at practically any speed.
