To be inspired to take good photos with whatever lens you have, I have som links to lenses up to almost 80 years old, made in among others USSR! So the text is in Norwegian, but you all understand which lens is used, and the photos speak for theme self. Enjoy:

Looking at the swatches, the Canon has better Jpeg output, the K-1 has much more detail. These are simply not the same class of camera.

The 5DmkIII is comparable to a K-3 at 100 ISO and jpeg output. Slightly better in some places, slightly worse in others. You're comparing the Canon to the wrong Pentax. My guess is a K-3II using Pixel Shift leaves the Canon in the dust.

The Canon image looks tp produce a more contrasty jpeg, but nothing that couldn't be fixed in PP, but the Pentax has more detail in the orange, pink and red. You sure don't get much for your money with the the Canon, at least not in terms of 100 ISO IQ on a still life or landscape. In fact used as a field camera, the Canon is highway robbery.

You can do this yourself at Imaging Resources as linked above. There is no need to trouble folks on the forum with this kind of nonsense.

To the OP: I have had the K-1 for a week. I'm a hobbyist doing a single lens challenge for the month, for fun. Have a look at the following images in flickr, then download the full size jpeg.

If you can see anything there that a 5DIII could do better, let me know.

Thanks Norm...you saved the life of a squirrel that wanted to come over here and devour a troll. The squirrel would have been executed had he done so.....but you saved him the trouble...and his little life!

Regards!

OP I suggest you stick with Canon. Jumping to Pentax (or any other brand/camera) won't magically make your pictures OMG!!! better.

I Pentax (lenses) are relatively cheap? (compared with typical Canon 'L' lens).
A fool and their money are soon parted...

Since when does absolute cost of a lens directly equate to absolute image quality? Just because Canon says you must pay 2x as another manufacturer's lens, does it make it 2x as good? Or you 2x as gullible?

An important factor is that images uploaded here are drastically reduced in resolution and size. Even Flickr uploads are displayed with compression - the best choice is to download full size and compare offline.

I was going to say that, but since the OP was basically trolling, I felt it was wasted keystrokes

OP, if you're only looking at Flickr links of JPEGS on screen you won't get to appreciate how incredible the K-1 actually is. I process RAW on a 31" true 4K Adobe calibrated monitor and I can tell you, it's wildly good. Other full frame camera is an A7r and the K-1 lays it to waste.

There's the ISO invariance tests from dpreview which contain direct comparisons. I think you'll agree, Canon looks pretty good....

Sandy, I'll drop down and help you clear that shelf. I was going to open one two weekends ago for our daughter's graduation as a doctor but neither she nor my wife drink so I'd have had to drink it all by myself.
