Minolta 5d camera

So I just bought a Minolta 5d camera. I heard good things about.
Will be picking it up tomorrow and posting my thoughts.

Has anyone used one of these or the 7d?

It's a nice camera, actually the forerunner to the Sony A100 DSLR that came a bit later (after Sony bought out Minolta). It's comparable to a Pentax *istD, except with IBIS. It uses the same Sony 6mp sensor as the *ist and K100 series. I ran into a 5d shooter, who noticed I was carrying my istD & we talked for a bit. You'll be able to use the old Minolta Maxxum AF lenses on it, some of which are quite nice (the 50mm/1.7 comes to mind).

Every now and then I see a beloved Beercan online (Minolta's 70-210 f/4) and think of buying a 5D for it. Several fierce 5d/7d fans remain on the DPR Konica/Minolta page, and I drop in now & then. Both cameras take great images still, the 5d being the less-complex of the two. Enjoy!

The main reason I got it was to use my collection of minolta lenses. All sorts of fun to be had with those. Will be out with the 28-135 tomorrow giving it a good run through. I didn't know it had the same sensor as the *ist nice.

As a total Minolta noob, was the mount continued without change to Sony A? Ie. could you use your lenses on a second hand A900?

They totally could as I already have a Sony a33 and use my Minolta lenses on there. So maybe someday I might get the full-frame Sony a-mount camera.
But that is unlikely since I got a Minolta 7 film camera.

But back to the Minolta 5d. I just picked it up. It has a very quality feel and fits will in my hands. Viewfinder is pretty nice. Will have some shots posted tonight.

The 28-135mm is stellar

one of the shots I took Yesterday testing out the camera. I'm impressed, both the 5D and 28-135mm are great.

Another good thing about Minolta/Sony A-mount camera is the legacy M42 lens can be used with a $10 adapter. The camera is set to manual focus, but the adapter provides the focus confirm signal. The adapter is specifically good for prime M42.
Search for "m42 ma adapter" on eBay.

I got a Fotodiox adapter for my m42 lenses. It lacks focus confirm so I might be picking up one of those if I find the viewfinder too hard to use with out that feature.

Here is a shot with my minolta 50mm f1.7 @1.7
