No idea...

The K1000/8 has a MFD of 30 meters...
The A*1200/8 has a MFD of 8 meters...

Before this my gold standard for too big but still usable was the Sigma 200-500 f/2.8 w/2x TC for 400-1000 f/5.6... what were we talking about again?

Made for NASA back in 1964 - well over 50 year tech. After all if it was fabricated in 1964 it's design was based on, perhaps, late 1950 tech or so.
Can't help but wonder how good it is compared to modern glass.

An old file taken through a 300 buck (new - made about the year 2000) Chinese made two element f/8 1000mm achromatic scope with the old *Ist DL at about a distance of 60 feet or so I think. Full frame...
