Try the cheap 2.7x loupes...its a great view!
I need an EVF because I have to focus via the EVF (instead of LCD for battery life) as adapted glass have become my workhorse lenses and for seeing the shutter speed/ISO of my camera. Otherwise I can absolutely live with an OVF.

But charging many batteries is a pain.

How am I going to focus manually with an OVF that's not TTL? I have used my Sigma 135/3.5 with my a5000 and focusing with the LCD is hard as it is hard to hold the camera still in this configuration.

I regularly use a Hoodman with my Q-7 solely because my Q-7 doesn't have an EVF.
The Hoodman is held against the LCD by friction, and I find that to be awkward.
The Hoodman clones that attach to the camera via the tripod connector are awkward to attach.
All loupes are inconvenient simply because they add to the added space they occupy.
I've had my Q-7 for less than two years, but I've said many times that I'd buy a Q-S2 within 6 months if it had an EVF.

Not to derail things too far - but does anyone have a loupe source that works with the NX300?

That depends mainly on how large the screen is.
The Hoodman I have is held in place as a result of pressure between my face and Hoodman being transferred to become pressure between Hoodman and camera, so size is all that matters.
The Hoodman clone I bought from Amazon is held in place by an adjustable plastic frame; I did add a washer to raise the camera {lower the viewer}, but my view was probably adequate without doing that; now that I'm used to the Hoodman, I use it most of the time - I use the clone only when I'm using the 55-300mm with wildlife {the only time I use my Q-7 with a tripod, which is when having a physical attachment is really useful/necessary}.

The NX300 has a huge screen - 3.3" supposedly which is what makes it hard to find a viewer for.

I have NX300 and NX500(should sell 300)....the cheap ebay loupes work fine no matter what size screen

Also have my S4 Zoom phn/cam and the Galaxy cam....4.3 and 4.7 screens respectively and use said loupes on those 2 as well....no problems

Takes 1 minute to attach if ya got 2 hands!....space it does take but theres bigger bags

I only revert to these when I cant see liveview...the 2.7x magnification is excellent

They work fine on Q models as well....the one designated for Canon fits Sammys/Qs the best

My question: what about the DR of Samsung sensors? I have heard that they are on par (if not worse) than the offerings of Canon.
If you trust DxOMark's numbers, then the NX500 reaches a maximum of 13.9 stops of dynamic range, better than any other APS-C camera except the newer Nikons and the Pentax K-5/II/s.

However, the NX1 is the only other Samsung that gets over 13 stops. So what you heard may have been truer before that 28MP BSI sensor came along.

The Nikon 7200 has a dynamic range of 14.6
The Canon 80D has a dynamic range of 13.2
The Samsung NX500 has a dynamic range of 13.9
The Samsung NX1 has a dynamic range of 13.2

I would say that it isn't inaccurate to say that Samsung is lagging Sony a bit but maybe on par or leading Canon a bit also. This is comparing a higher density 28mp sensor to a lower density (24 or 25mp). The D500 Nikon (20mp) is lower than the D7200 but higher than the Samsung or the Canon at 14 stops.
