But anyone can make such a limited list. One can't really draw profound conclusions from this small survey.
Ofcourse depending on where the data is coming from and what time periode is used to gather the info. But the number of images if not small.

When many small surveys point in the same direction.......Well then "where there is smoke. ......"

(I have to tell you that I started looking at the HBO serie VeeP on saturday and you get itchy on that.....☺)

Well the K-5 was the last Pentax camera to sell in reasonable big numbers, but is already an oldy. So not a surprise that Pentax didn't score big, but not even making the list is........Well not very good.

On the other hand, I wrote that they had a marketshare of 1 %, so I shouldn't act surprised.
I'm curious what the sales numbers are for the K5 or others compared to some of the top 50 on that list. Can Sony have really sold that many more A7RII bodies in roughly one year at 3K per pop?

I think yes. But it also comes down to wich period was used where the images where uploaded. If that is a short and recent period then newer camera's have a bigger chance to score on the list.

So... PentaxIsDoomed? I really don't think that was the OP's intention when he opened the thread, so let's enjoy the data.

If anything, it sorts of confirms Ricoh Imaging's decision on prioritizing the D FA lenses; the Canon 24-105 seems quite popular (assuming the data is reliable... quantity is not enough ) and for Nikon, it would be the 24-120 and the 24-70. I don't see more expensive primes, which is interesting; mostly 35 and 50mm f/1.8. The 7D MkII results are interesting, looks skewed by wildlife/sports shooters more than any other camera.

Nor do I. Pentax may not be doomed but primes apparently are. It looks to me like most serious photographers with serious gear have have found zooms more than just good enough for their purposes.

The high end lens market has spoken, at least according to this study, and it's not talking primes.

If you expand to all lenses used you can find expensive primes.
FI on 5D III the 7th most used lens is 85/1.2. 135/2 is 14th.
A $9000 lens like 500/4 is on place 47.

Have you seen which is the second most used lens for 7D Mark II?

And given the fact that Canon just updated the 24-105mm f4L lens (despite the fact that professionals want some updates on the 50mm f.4 lens and on the 85mm f1.2 lens), I tend to think this charts are somehow accurate.

Dan, the second most used?

Fogel70, sure, if I expand to all lenses. But if I do that, all lenses would be displayed
I should've said, I don't see the more expensive primes between the first 5 lenses.

With "just" 1.000$ price difference between the first and the second place...I don't mind "losing" by 0.2%

The list is limited to the 100 most used lenses for each camera.

But that zoom lenses is used in large majority is hardly a surprise or is it?
High end zoom lenses performs very well and modern cameras have very good low light noise performance, so fast prime lenses has not the same priority as in the past.
And on FF it might not be very often users need shallower DOF than a f/2.8 zoom lens give.

The used ISO also seems to indicate that fast lenses is not often needed, as ISO100 (or lower) is often used for at least 30% of the shots and 80% of the shots is with ISO800 or lower.

Another thing I noticed. The number of picture for each lens in not very many for some of the cameras, so a single user can affect the statistics quite a bit.
