No k-mount in it. Just some time ago he called the Ricoh K-1 a good camera.

I like Thom's columns most of the time. But this one is strange, and a bit negligent in serving readers, as he ignores one of the few completely thought-out and mature lens systems that Pentax offers. Seems like he is more interested in bitching about Nikon and Canon than providing useful information.

You have to consider the Canon 5Ds/r, the Fujifilm GFX, the Hasselblad XCD, the Ricoh K-1, and the Sony A7rII if you’re a pixel pusher, and each of those has something that the D810 doesn’t.

I have read Thom since my Nikon using days. It would be fair to say that he doesn't rate Pentax at all, or mention them very often. Therefore I was not surprised regarding his omission of Pentax lenses from that table.

I meant to do it yesterday, but ran out of time - print that table out and add Pentax lenses to it. Might get to it today

Let's see here. What percentage of the consumer market shoots Canikon and what percentage shoots Pentax? Besides, I think Thom is just as guilty as the manufacturers he is complaining about when he pounds the prime lens drum. I see people with Canon and Nikon cameras, as well as a few Sony, Fuji and Panasonic. Everyone I remember had a zoom attached.

I'm afraid to say the endless complaining from Mr Hogan gets me down a bit even though he almost always writes a good column. It's like listening to too many Leonard Cohen songs. Great stuff for two or three but after a dozen you may find yourself wandering in this vale of tears asking for a doctor. When did Hogan last write a column celebrating the joy and pleasure of photography, or even illustrate it with images? I happen to think he is broadly right about Nikon, a company I don't like one bit considering how they've behaved in recent years, but the point was fully made about 75 columns ago. For a mature system with a good spread of modern lenses at various levels of price/quality it is hard to beat M43, and Fuji are pretty good for lovers of prime, er, primes. If you like or at least don't mind older but still current lenses, Pentax are hard to beat, too. Plenty of good choices out there.
