Sony A6500

When APS-C mirrorless start with launch prices of £1499 body only, you know this photography thing is becoming the preserve of the wealthy.

I'm sure it's great n'all . . . but WOW!

Agreed. This is especially true for Pentax users like me who find the NEX series to be the easiest way to use my old K and M lenses.

I am curious about the price difference, since it has been announced at a price which seems a good deal higher in Europe than in the U.S. Here it is announced at $1,400. The price set out by the OP would be closer to $1,850. That can't all be VAT.

Sony is a master of miniaturization -- few can duplicate their prowess in this regard.

I have the A6000. Got it for £329, new. I know the A6500 is super special, but £1499 super special?

Just wait a couple of years until twenty new, incrementally improved models have been released.

I've been down the Sony route. Sticking with Pentax and I pray the K-1 product cycle is four years from now on, with only a few changes, like the location of the [AF] button and the stupid location of the cable release jack/socket.

Other than with the K1, that is what I have always done. Still, the A6000 debuted at £600/$600 which was actually several hundred dollars less than the last NEX.

All of the new Sony bodies with IBIS are about twice the price of their predecessors. The new A7RII is up at $3k, whereas my first generation A7R purchased a year ago after the new one was announced was under $1K. I'm also a little puzzled by the new price structure. Sony is a bargain no more.

Pricing may change soon. Sony are saying that sensor production after the Kumamoto earthquake should return to normal by end October:

Sony confirms the Kumamoto negative impact will end in late October - sonyalpharumors sonyalpharumors

But on the other hand, Sony have also been saying that demand has outstripped supply for many recent lenses and cameras, even though some of them command premium prices. So with strong demand, Sony probably won't be discounting their new stuff any time soon.

Yup! Three grand for the A99II . . .

Sony Alpha A99 II Digital SLT Camera Body (ILCA99M2.CEC) - Wex Photographic

EDIT: Several hours on and I've read the specs. It's like the love child of a Canon 1DXMkII and an A7rII. Astonishing camera.

Hmmmm . . . A99II with Tamron 150-600 G2 (coming soon for A-mount). Might this be the sports rig I've been waiting for?
