DP Review Looks at the Sigma Quattro H

Richard Butler has reviewed the Sigma SD Quattro H, which as some would know has an APS-H format sensor that uses the Foveon system.

Interestingly, he refers to the K-01 as the only other mirrorless body to use an existing DSLR mount, but leaves comparisons there.

Perhaps the reaction here to the Pentax K-1 review and the now (in)famous meandering bicycle AF test had some effect, because the Quattro H's very slow AF rates a mention, but no criticism, as such.

Bitten..
It seems that most camera companies are producing towards specialty needs, the jack of all trades camera concept is being adopted by smartphones and drones.Product managers are getting smart and are deciding not to get into a race where there would be no winners, if we are the ultimate judges..
Now, its pretty clear that Olympus, Pentax and Sigma never had the intention to have a sports machine, rather concentrating in the slow but beautiful high resolution side of photography.
The problem is that DP reviewers are so sold out on the sporty fast AF concept, that they had lost taste for the image concept..On their reviews, its about 80% talk about shutter speed, buffer size, fps, and speed related details. Imaging is the last and less they review about.
But most non DP independent reviews are better balanced, in fact, its more about image quality and less fps.
So we have now sports cameras and landscape/portrait cameras, and smartphones and the GoPros have the street photography pretty gripped by the handle or round things, whatever you prefer.
There is a grey area, where no camera is a winner, and I believe its more about your skills and setups and less about your camera capabilities...weddings...that is a very thin ice area, perilous for any camera manufacturer to reclaim championship.
DP reviewed the K01 as a sports camera, wrongly and very much unprofessional done, for that was not Pentax intentions for the poor yellow bricky..
They are doing the same to the Sigma, and Sigma should step in and tell them upfront that its not a ice skating 20fps lot of lights camera..

DP Review definitely tends to focus on auto focus tracking and video modes. That said, this feels a lot less well rounded than a lot of other cameras. If all you do is landscape, though, the Foveon sensors at base iso can hardly be beaten.

I think what Rob brings up and to me is an interesting question is that of a mirrorless camera that keeps the same mount as SLRs. This one really looks pretty small, even though I suppose it could be a little thinner if they use a new mount. If there was a full frame K-02 that had roughly the same performance as a K-1, but with an EVF, that certainly would be an interesting concept.

Perhaps by Butler's take on his review is that for now on, DP will not focus on features that a certain camera does not excel, given that we all know beforehand that its not worth the effort, eg. K1 focusing speeds..And that would be a great change of reviewing, hopefully it could force them to rereview cameras , based on what the camera is for. Can we ask for a K1 review:Reloaded?
Its the comments that spoil a review, knuckleheads asking or comparing this to that, luring the reviewer to endlessly answer childish questions..Sadly, most would be buyers will base their decisions on the comments, not on the review..
