In theory, you could take pictures through it.
Minox offered an adapter to attach their cameras to a binocular or monocular, complete with a device to put any binocular on a tripod.

In the seventies I owned one of these, but it did not get much use. The picture quality was just not good enough.

If you hold it up to the eyepiece of the camera, a monocular can provide a nice magnified view of the focusing screen for more careful focus. (Note: the camera needs to be on a tripod to do this unless you are an octopus.)
