Anyone have the YI M1 mirrorless?

I'm intrigued by this little $300, proudly Chinese mirrorless camera. Does anyone here have one?

Not yet, but the price has come down lots...the firmware updates have improved it a bit.Raw + jpg is possible now.

No IBIS,so the stabilised Panasonic lenses should do OK,the drawback is the body alone isnt available.

Google the M43 lenses with this body and search YT,there are some unflattering reports prior to the firmware update.

For a little more the Pano GX80/85 can be had with stabilised body(4mp less)its a better buy(imo)

Appearently the autofocus really, really sucked. I saw evidence of it on a video. However, I'm wondering if the recent firmware updates have changed that.

I would just spend $200 more on a Sony A6000

This is the moment, very similar to what Japan did way back, where the Chinese electronics and optics companies begin to stand on their own feet and compete on even terms with the rest of the world, as opposed to being knockoff merchants.

You learn a lot by copying, but sooner or later you have to make your own mark. I will watch with interest.

Is it after the firmware update? I've seen bits of this review, autofocus in video is dreadful.

Well its cheap, the firmware improves it...4K on a tripod would be pretty good.

The reviewer reckons the stills he captured are pretty good.

Id like to see a test with the OLY/Pano lenses.

You know what? I'm gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on this one. The tests for the glass alone didn't come out half bad.

Its the right price and further firmware updates can only make it better. Its about the cheapest way you can shoot 4K,just have to use a mono/tripod to get stabilisation.

For a little bit more a GX80/85 has inbody stabilisation and a viewfinder.Only 16mp.

I would gladly take the GX85 over the Yi, but I don't have the money. I've wanted to get into Micro Four Thirds since having the LX100. The GX85 seems like the interchangeable lens equivalent of the LX100. But I don't have any MFT glass and I love to shoot at night, so I'd need something fast.

The Yi M1 goes for about 370USD with two lenses, one of them being pretty fast. I read some tests of the glass, and while I can't really wrap my head around the tech, it looked as though both kit lenses were quite sharp.

So, I could get the Yi now and get a GX85 body when tax returns come back. I'd have some glass to start out with, and I could keep the Yi as a backup.

The Yi doesn't have an EVF, and that sucks but I can deal with it. I got my start in photography late in life by using the smartphone so it's not that alien to me.

I find the YI to be of interest, and also due to budget. I have a K-m43 adapter around here someplace, and 12-40 plus Lumix 45-150 would make a nice little team. Definitely improving with each firmware update!
