Is Nikon Canon and Minolta doing the TTL to P-TTL change

I had mine in A Aperture mode with the shutter defaulting to 180 and the ISO on auto and the flash wasn't firing at full strength I may have fluked it as when I tried it again it didn't want to do it, but setting the camera like that is the same as TAV mode. and the flash works properly along with my external flash.
