The way Olympus organized their menus is confusing to me. I prefer Panasonic which seems more Pentax friendly so going back and forth is easier for me.

They have gotten much friendlier in their newer menu setup. The hardest part that i find with the olympus menu system is what they mean by certain items such as noise reduction(not the same meaning as what we are use to with pentax). Luckily is comes with a description.

Ive always maintained Pentax menus are easy to navigate,Panasonic and Samsung too.

OLY is a pain but the 3rd generation of OMD 10 looks to have made some progress on that front.

@surfar I looked at the MK3, its about 180€ more expensive and I don't realy care for video. New processor is nice... but the MK2 is already newer than my K30 so it should be an improvement either way.

YES, but its worth it...go look at the DXO sheet....release price of MK 2 was $649, now its discounted to clear it out.The 2 is a capable camera,older processor and menu thats DIFFICULT.You are used to a Pentax menu,Y complicate your shooting?So release price is the same but the advanced features of the MK 3 put it UP there as a more capable device.

Hmm I don't see it. Could you elaborate what is actually better apart from menus?

I don't mind if the menus are complicated, there isn't too much I need access to apart from manual mode and A priority after everything is set.

If its like the other olympus cameras, you really dont need to go through the menus. They have a quick access info menu grid that you can change a great number of settings.

There are cheat sheets out there, YouTube vids et al to deal with Olympus menus. That what I’ve used. Many or probably most settings are do once and forget. After that I use the SCP - super control panel, a quick access menu of the main settings. This site has some good stuff on it: Unlocking Olympus

Don’t forget Panasonic. Cams like the G80 and GX800 series are very popular too.

Thanks, I somehow missed the GX80! It seems the direct competitor to the mk2 and it's also quiete a bit cheaper.

I'm more a fan of the rangefinder styled gx85 and gx8 in Panasonic myself.

Today I had the chance to get my hands on both GX80(85) and MkII.

Design:
I liked pretty much everything about the design of the GX80. Even though my dominant eye is my left one I gather it makes no difference if I squish my nose on either camera. The little knobs on the olympus though seem really out of proportion. I guess I don't see much aesthetic(sense) in the retro look.

EVF:
Sadly I didn't have a lot of time with the MKII since they had to pull it out of the showcase, but the viewfinder is better on the olympus. It's not a huge amount of difference, but even though with glasses it was more comfortable. On the GX80 however there was the option to use a classical layout where all the info is below the picture and with that setup I was able to comfortably see the entire picture.
Compared to the K30 both stink.
Since I already worked with a finder-less camera years ago I think I can skip on the EVF being B+ rather than A-.

The DA35 sure is a great lens. I use it a lot on my K-30 as well. Currently on vacation in asia and I have a lot of night shots to process when I get back home.

The K-30 is a great camera. About 2 years ago, I lost mine in Hong Kong. Bought another refurb one on Ebay for $200. Same color too. Has not had any issue.
If mine failed, I would buy another, or maybe a K-50. Too many compromises were made in later Pentax cameras such as removal of in-body AA battery support. K-30 + eneloops forever.

My mom has been shooting with my old K200D. She has been complaining about indoor/night shots due to low ISO. I think it's time I buy a K-30 for her as well.

You wont be disappointed,the menus on Panasonics are easy....vast selection of native lenses and plenty of adapters for other mounts.A better option than the mk2 Oly(imo).
