Sigma to Announce 9 new lenses for the Sony FE System

(SR5) Leaked images of the nine new Sigma FE lenses!!!!!!! - sonyalpharumors sonyalpharumors

Adding these lenses to the Sony FE offering is great news. More options for FE shooters. Really looking forward to the 105mm f/1.4 and the 135mm F/1.8.

Good news indeed. I don't personally use any native E-mount lenses, but it's nice to see more FE options for sure. For those that need them, I'm sure they'll both be very good lenses

It seems to be a great lens for the money. Its big and heavy, but the images look as good as anything Canon or Nikon offer.

Do you have to play roulette with the focus on Sony?

With the new generation of FE bodies, probably not. The first generation will probably have some issues. This eliminates the adapter which was the main source of the problem.

If the images are real then it looks like it the same lenses they have released for DSLR, with a built in adapter for Sony FE-mount.
For lenses 50 mm and longer it does not matter much, but for wide angle lenses they get much larger and heavier than they had to be for a short register distance mount.

To me this is kind of a lens version of K-01.

Yes. It seems as though this defeats the point of short registration distance. I understand that Sigma is creating one lens design for Nikon and Canon and then just doing an FE mount version, but for the wide angle lenses, they are a lot larger than those made specifically for a short registration distance.

It may not matter if they are a lot cheaper than Sony options.

Its not ideal, but had they designed lenses specifically for the FE system it would have taken longer and they would have been more expensive. The most important thing is that it gives people more options at more price points and puts competitive pressure on Sony and Zeiss. Zeiss basically cut the price on its Batis 85mm by $200 and the Batis 135mm APO by $500 with in days of Sigma announcing these lenses. The Sigma 135mm is a very good lens for the money. Sony is due to announce their own 135mm this year and I'm glad to see more competition.
