Good, super cheap prime for Nikon D7000

Hi
The person who got me into photography uses a Nikon D7000. He has two lenses, the kit 18-55 and a 55-300 or thereabouts. I want to buy him a manual, vintage prime as a thank you, a) because he deserves it, and 2) because he has nothing like that and has never had the pleasure of using one. My budget is modest, e.g. I have been looking at a vivitar 28mm f2.8 for £25 but that is towards the top of my budget. So...

Can anyone recommend a lens?

Are there any compatibility issues with the D7000?

I know nothing about the camera other than it is highly regarded despite being older. The short lens would take him into a totally new area and I think it will be fun

Thanks for reading this and I appreciate any feedback

For that price you will not likely find one that will outperform his 18-55mm at 28mm. It has to be an AI(auto indexing) or newer. I would recommend trying to find a cheap Nikon Ai-s 50mm f1.8.
