Anyone here collects Nikon AF film bodies? N5005

Hello,

Friends and family know I collect cameras. A friend of mine gave me this from a neighbor that passed away. The widow was going to throw this away and my friend "rescued" this plus a N8008.
Both cameras were in a dusty box. Apparently in storage for a long time. I cleaned this one up but I have no way of testing it. The mirror is stuck up. not sure if related to power or a different issue. It is missing the battery cover that completes the power circuit. Well, more specific, there was part of it in the box. I checked online and it is hard to find and expensive. I don't even know if the camera works as it was stored in less than adequate conditions.
Interestingly, the N8008 has the battery cover and battery holder broken and disintegrated as well.
So this is pretty much a display item now.

Hello,

I was able to manually short the batteries and got it to flash the AF light. The AF hunts the lens back and forth but the mirror is stuck up and nothing else happens. Couldn't get it to do anything else.
It may be useful as a parts donor or display only.

Some people are fans of those, but most models from that era have not held up very well.
There's a recent thread in Rangefinder Forum featuring a bunch of Nikon AF 35mm SLRs.
