More than likely the Pentax will be a beast.
I found the roadmap...

Just use the da21 it regardless of weather. You'll be able to buy a few second hand da21's for the price of the new FF 20mm. It's not made of sugar and can handle quite a lot. I don't use mine when it's pouring down but it's seen an awful lot of drizzle.
Probably not like this (see below). To be fair, that day I left the K-3ii and the better lenses home and just used the K-30 and a WR kit lens.

All the 2019 or later lenses drifted to the bottom because they're so big.

The interesting thing is the roadmap states "Ultra Wide-Angle Single Focus Lens", but does not specify "Large Aperture"... so to me that indicates that the 20mm-ish lens will be f/2.8 or slower, and therefore not gargantuan like the 50/1.4 or eventual 85/1.4.

If it's not expensive, why not ... (but already have the heavy 15-30)

Not very expensive but why 67mm filter threads for 2.8 lenses. Totally unnecessary

Anyone had a look at the $350 MTF's... All f2.8's but still.
What is wrong with f/2.8 lenses?
Beyond this f-stop is useful only for those situations that yell for thin DoF.

Size of wide angle lenses is only loosely related to aperture, by definition of the f number, the physical size of aperture on a 20mm lens is 5 times smaller than the physical size of aperture on a 100mm lens. Wide angle lenses are made bigger in order to improve optical performance in corners, regardless of how fast the lens is. For long lenses, the size of the front element is directely related to max lens aperture.

Filter thread size aligned with lens size? Would is make any sense to stick a 49mm filter thread on a 70mm diameter lens?

1:2 max magnification. Sweet.
Agreed! That's a bit of awesomesauce, especially for the 20/24mm models.

Actually, Tamron produces zoom lenses for Sony that use 67mm filters, so Tamron was likely being considerate of this when designing these lenses.

Why were you dreaming about 20mm and 85mm lenses? Weren't you the one calling me a marketing victim when I said in another topic that is nice to have options when comes to lenses and cameras? Why did you said a few days ago in another topic that you may trade the 70-200mm f2.8 for the f4 version when it will become available? Are you a marketing victim also? Suddenly having options is a good thing but when I said it you called me a marketing victim? It takes topics like this to agree (or to realize) that is nice to have options in order to choose the right gear based on your needs?

Optical lens size is rather small. I don't see why it has to come in such a large package. Lens motors don't need to be so large.

Same source. They are using the same housing and motor for all lenses to keep cost down.

Since the filter thread plane is positionned in front of the lens front element by a certain distance rather than having the fitler thread plane aligned with the lens front element plane, the lens filter thread has to be large enough to let enough clearance for the angle of view of 20mm so that 3:2 rectangle corners don't end-up shaded, regarless of the maxium size of lens aperture. Diagoanl angle of view of 20mm on FF is 94.38 degrees, just draw that 94.38 angles lines from the lens optical center and you get how large the filter thread should be.

On the one hand, I'm dreaming of 20mm and 85mm. On the other hand I'm glad they aren't available for the K mount, because I don't need those lenses and the lack off them saved me money.

Sure... Same with 70-200mm f4 which you say you are tempted to buy when becomes available and replace the f2.8 version you have now. As I told you a few times, you're selling cucumbers to the gardener.
