Canon rumoured 75Mp FF Waow!

According to canon rumours, Canon are preparing the launch of a new EOS R model with 75Mpixels sensor. Rumoured Canon EOS Rs Specifications [CR1] | Canon Rumors
With all the good RF lenses, that sounds promising. Let's hope that pixels aren't as noisy as with their D90.

I would never buy such a camera. What kind of computer does one need to work with such files?

Oh dear. They want to start another MP war. Somehow, I doubt that many people will be interested, this time. Still, Canon will no doubt push it as a MF rival, which no doubt will re-start the “equivalence” arguments, too.

I think canon are trying to put Sony back in their box. Even the sky arts program, masters of photography are using canon mirrorless rather than leica in the latest series. They are producing nice cameras too! I like the Nikon mirrorless range but you wonder if Nikon may have to step back and join the also rans. (Pentax are niche BTW, we don't lower ourselves to races )

At what aperture does diffraction begin to set in with a 75 megapixel full frame sensor? My guess would be around f5.6. It would just seem like a big application for it would be landscapes, but you would tend to hit the diffraction limit pretty quickly and would end up having to do photo stacking to to get things in focus adequately.

Diffraction would start to be visible beyong f/5.6. The RF 15-35 at 20mm or wide would work for landscape shots (hyperfocal gets closer as focal length decreases). Prices of Canon RF lenses are killing me.

Canon keeps showing that there *is* a reason for their decades of dominance. I don't think 75MP make a lot of sense, but their RF lenses are incredibly good - even if the price tag puts a ridiculous premium on the extra bit of performance over their already excellent EF glass.

that rumor leaves me wonder why not just use a medium format. Even more wonder why no update news on Pentax's medium format camera.

75mp in the top camera allows for 36mp in the second best camera. 36 is just perfect as we all know.

Something Canon has been loath to do since the film era. I don’t think they want to design a whole new lens lineup for mf coverage. They have enough on the plate with dslr, mirrorless, cine and broadcast format lenses.

A 75mp FF sensor that has class-competitive noise and DR performance + 300/2.8 lens + 1.4x II extender would be amazing for wildlife.

How could a 75MP - not mm - be noise-competitive? It could be resolution-competitive, if not diffraction-prone, but in that case it would be in competition with MF.

Thanks for correcting my typo.

As for your question - I don't know the technical aspects of the solution, however in the APS world 24MP sensors eventually surpassed 16MP in noise and DR performance and the same with 36MP FF sensors surpassing 24MP. We'll see what happens.

Canon's 50MP FF sensor certainly delivered in resolution and noise performance, but fell significantly behind the 42MP Sony sensor in dynamic range.

I'm happy with my FF K1, with it's 36... something... MPs. The images it produces are something else, you can enlarge quite a bit with little image deprecation..if any...according to my albeit older eyes.

Anyways I can't keep up with this MP horsepower race both from a budget standpoint and yes...personal interest... wise...Every time I seem to turn around...MPs are upped...first 42...then 50...then 61...now 75. It is enough to make a guy get a touch of the vapours...and look for a place to sit down....just to get my blood pressure time to settle down.

I'm not just merely content, but actually very pleased with 36 MP's in my 2017 full frame....and I'm still learning all the wonderful features the K1 has to offer. Photographic life is far more than having the most MP's in your holster.

They say 24MP to 36MP is indistinguishable when printing A1 (you can't tell 200+ from 300dpi in a print unless you use a magnifying glass, which defeats the purpose of a large print - pixel peeping on a computer is much easier).

75MP is obviously overkill for any screen or monitor, so it must be for printing huge files, no?...
