What is the plural form of Olympus?

I posed this question to my wife and son. After much debate they both googled it, and that led them to this discussion on another forum that is a very entertaining read.

What's the plural of Olympus? | Amateur Photographer

The reason for asking this question is due to a collection of Olympus camera gear that I acquired today. All of this is from the original owner, complete with manuals and warranties. Bodies are an OM-1, OM-2s program, and OM-10. Lenses are an OM 75-150, OM 50 1.4, OM 50 1.8, and OM 28 3.5. Also included is an Olympus T-20 flash unit, various filters, hood, and hard case.

I had to share a picture fresh out of the box in all their dusty glory. The term "giddy as a school girl" may apply.

Given that it is a proper name, I would vote for Olympuses. Now I'll go read the article.

Not an edifying discussion on that site, Sam!

If Olympus can be considered Greek in origin (home of the gods, like Norse Valhalla), IMHO Olympuses is the most respectful.

Anyway, nice collection - that 28 is meant to be very handy!

I wouldn't demean them by referring to them in plural, but only by their full, proper names, with full usage of the Oxford comma.

Simple,

Send me that embarrassing, dreadful and ugly OM-2s for proper disposal, sell the OM10 and you no longer have the plural problem!

Nice Olympuses, Olympii, Olympiads whatever!

Thanks,

I vote for the term "Olympi" as the plural. Although I suppose this could turn into one of those "octopus/octopuses/octopi/octopodes" type discussions.

I don't know about pluralizing "Olympus", but that's a pretty sweet haul...

My wife works at the Oregon Coast Aquarium and that is the EXACT train of thought she had. HA!

Ismael, I would happily send it down to you for one of your awesome refurbishings, but I would hate having to hunt you down just to get it back. ;-)

I am glad to see that everyone is having as much fun as we did with this debate. :-)

Bit of a trap, Mikey. The 'i' bit is from Latin.

That’s what applies in Greek. It’s not a noun but a name, a title, something unique. In Greece we say Όλυμπος (olimpos) and there’s no plural. But if it was, it would be Όλυμποι (olimpi) I guess. That’s a good collection of cameras there.
