origin story.. my M1

Look what I found! was it worth $250? In my opinion yes since I don't look forward to too much in life now. I fitted my plastic Advance lever plastic piece to this one and it's a perfect match so now I just have to find a donor one. Light meter works and functions great. Serial number 122124. Externally exact as my om1 except for the mount behind the camera lens, the M1 uses flat screwdriver screws while the OM1 uses Phillips head

These certainly showed the way to other manufacturers. Bit of a toss up as to whether the OM1/OM2 or MX/ME super was the best camera. Pentax was very quick to catch up though. I don't recall the hot shoe looking so large (and ugly) from the back but then it has been a long time since I had an OM1.

Thank you Sam, and yes Stevejo the hot shoe is tall and ugly but I'm never going to have it left on there as I never use Flash anyway I do miss using a Pentax me super which was my first camera but I love a camera with really no electronics in it. People today look down on slrs, but my camera will still go with a dead battery or without a battery. Lets see a $10,000 DSLR do that

Too right! my K10D only cost me about £150 as the K20 had been out a while but I still feel upset that it just died on me. Even buying a new KP hasn't eased the pain.

I just picked up a hot shoe for my OM-1. It was missing, but the wear marks show it had regular use. I will keep it on when it is on the shelf.

Funny, my wife's first camera was an ME super, which we still have. I have since picked up an MX that needs a clr.

I think you might have a bit of a rarity there. The M1 was what Olympus was going to call the OM1 but Leica objected that the name was too close to their M series so Olympus added the O at the front. I'm not sure how many M1's made it into circulation but I don't think there were that many. Either way I think it was definitely worth the $250 you paid. The single digit OM series were great cameras.

More than legend would suggest... Around ~52,000.

OM-1 is nice. I'd buy one but for the battery required.
So I'll probably wait for a nice OM-2n to come along...

You can always have them recalibrated for a modern battery and then just use an adapator. I just use 675 hearing air batteries in mine with a brass adaptor. The batteries last about 3 months and they are cheap enough.

That has been my solution with other cameras that use the 625 mercury battery.
I have trouble keeping track of when the zinc-air cell was last replaced in each.
Choosing an OM-2 instead which uses 44/76/357 cells would eliminate that.
