It sure is pushing the boundaries isn't it!
Looks a lovely little camera that will, undoubtedly, be significantly past my budget. It might bring the prices of the A7R series down a bit which would be nice for anyone hunting for a high-MP camera.

In the past if you mostly shot video you needed the A7sIII. If you needed high resolution you needed the A7rIv. If you needed high frames for sports you had to get an A9. I think Sony has combined all these into onc camera. For photographers who had to buy multiple bodies for different needs, the A1's expected price will be justified.

I think Ricoh are wise not to try to compete on number-driven tech - probably only Canon have the resources to do it now. I't will be interesting to see what Sony have actually achieved with this in actual practice as against marketing, but it looks impressive.

Quite am impressive camera. The AF system seems like it will be impressive. It's definitely way out of my price range, though. It looks like Sony & Canon are now going to go head to head for a long time until Nikon gets their Z system together.

I'm still waiting for the K-3III, though! Hahahaa!

Now this is impressive. Should come with matching price tag, head to head to Canon. One thing added to beat canon in this ‘game’ of numbers. Cooling system to keep 8K and 4K 120 usable, even more than that ... 16-bit raw ... features are counting. A lot of them for high end work. Better get my popcorn ready..

These are incredible specs. Good on Sony for continuing to push boundaries. This Canon/Sony mirrorless battle is good news for people who can benefit from the tech and have the $$ to pay for it. The A9 was already an astonishingly good camera, but to boost the resolution and FPS, while adding 8k and all the other additions will make this an attractive body for those who can use it. It makes more more curious to see what features and updates will find their way downstream into the A7iv.

$6,498.00 on B&H - 'notify when available' being the obvious only option.

If they want to sell me one, they're going to have to show me fox image I like more than one of my 24MP ones. The one they show is a total fail.

Desperate move to catch up and very little substantial improvements versus the competition.

We can only hope they resolved their EVF dropping resolution in focus use problems with this implementation of the on paper 9m dots EVF.

And hopefully they caught up on their lagging IBIS.

Will their animal AF capabilities have improved enough?

Priced at $6500 ... probably 7.500 EUR.

I guess at $3500 it would have been a more realistic way way for the Sony fans out of their splintered world where you need to buy one camera for video, one for good image quality and one for speed.

Very little? This just killed R5. On all fronts.

Was the R5 worth killing?

The A1 seems pretty meh for being brandnew and at such a price.

Remember the R5 wiped the floor with the a7R4 series and that's its only competition.

The >5000 EUR cameras from Nikon and Canon will appear this year. Z1 and R1 will be the direct competition.

Image quality: No reason to assume its even better than R5.
AF: Eye AF maybe on par. Maybe.
Speed: Same speed with raw images. Zero improvement.
Image stabilization: Likely to still be industry last
Video quality: unsure if on par with R5 or worse.
Ergonomics: well, its Sony, the industry trailing manufacturer.

I'd say the Sony kills itself by the combination of price and underwhleming feature-set.

In 2019 yes, it would have been a big story. In 2021? Not.

But the Sony fans will love it anyways.
