I would never expect 400/2.8 and 600/4 to be cheap, but is 100/2.8 sky high priced as well?

It won't be cheap, but not as much as the longer primes. The F1.8/2.0 plastic primes are the bargains and a few of the zooms are reasonable for what you get.

I said I wouldn’t replace my EF glass when I first bought the mirrorless but I’m down to just the 600 F4 IS II and if I got a decent trade in price I may pick up the new RF.

I’ve been impressed with the RF 100-500 compared to the old EF 100-400 IS II. Optically they are about the same but the autofocus and IS seem to be better on the RF.

And that's highly regarded and judged best for its range by lots of reviewers, the 100-500 was criticised for its f7.1 but its just an extension of the EF.

A consumer grade zoom is coming soon.

Yea the 7.1 was not a popular choice especially for people who want to also use teleconverters on it. For me it was nice to have the extra 100mm over the 100-400 to fill the gap to my 600.

I did a trip to the Florida Everglades in February and I shot it at F8 most of the time and could still blow out the background and also shot a bit at F13 for some real good depth of field for close up shots of lizards.

It’s a nice size lens and so easy to hand hold, I did a few 1/80 at 500mm and the IBIS and IS did a great job. It is an expensive lens but I’ve been really happy with it so far.

Some pictures of the 400 and 600 look like they could just be the latest EF models with an RF adapter permanently mounted on them. If that’s the case I definitely won’t be upgrading.

I saw mention that's what they are doing, essentially older lens with new mount.

that focus faster(probably because of mirrorless technology).

BTW, 12 thousand to 13+ for the 400/600.Some Canon shooters will pay it!

The EF is a great lens and only a few years old, the RF will be same as your zoom experience. The extra 100mm of zoom is an advancement,I can't see that with the 600.Put your $ towards the R3,I'm guessing 5000 or a touch more?

Now with the official announcement the 600 is just the EF with a new RF mount I won’t be updating my 600.

Still not enough on the R3 for me to consider it, I do like the built in grip and hopefully it uses the big 1DX2,3 battery.
