Between all the graffiti, it isn't selling Seattle to me. Graffiti including such horrible messages as 'all cops are burnable' and 'riot revolt rebuild' Not the best choice of photographic subjects imo.

Lens output looks sharp though. Pleasing CA control as well. Noticeably improved especially at f/4 over the older DSLR version.

The last time we had a friendly and even jocular exchange about something politcal, we both got slapped by the Mod Squad, so I'm going to zip my virtual lip.

The lens looks very good, and it's funny to think that a Z body + 24-120/4 could mostly replace my Pentax + DA Limiteds.

Haha fair. zip lips from me too.

And yes I think so too on this lens. The 24-120/f4 does seem to be sharper across the frame and of course more versatile outside, but I'm still interested more in the 28-75mm f/2.8 just for the extra stop.

Similar prices. I'm not buying anytime now though so plenty of time to read the reviews and ponder. Probably can't go wrong with either though. The modern lens designs are so much better than past generations.

DA* is old. I don't know why people compare new Nikon product with old Pentax products.
The Z’s are comparable to the just released HD-DA 16-50, across the line. The S line even more so. Nikon never used to seal lenses like that. I think only one of the very cheapest in Z line isn’t sealed. Probably the best sealed system available today. That used to be a huge strength of Pentax. Canon/Nikon you had to buy top of the line body’s and lenses for sealing and the most expensive lenses to get what Pentax had for half the price. Things changed in a decade.

Canon and Sony are still inconsistent with weather sealing.

It’s relevant because some of us, I know I was one, came to Pentax for the weather sealing in tough environments. It literally was the deciding factor in picking the brand for me anyway.

Impressive results for such a zoom lens with the TCs! That is something really new and unexpected...

Lens and camera tech keeps improving. It's to a point where in 2021/2022 a Nikon Z9 makes more sense than a 645z with old glass (Z9 : 45Mp, fully electronic shutter = no vibrations, similar price point).

Quite nice. I had to click on it to get the full detail, but it does punch up the sharpness. Did you correct for CA in post or is that straight from the camera?

Oh, it has very good details resolving power. This lens is so much more 'normal' in rendering than then the other S primes that look weird

I did bump the CA correction to the max in C1, but I also zero-ed the distortion instruction. It loads with +100 in C1.

It's a fantastic lens and the Z-system is blessed to have it.

Low-count optical elements, sharp in the middle, 29cm min focusing distance, cheap, light, pleasant bokeh, comes with swirly background, silent AF. Natural, beautiful vignetting at f2. BTW, I am even surprised at how good the focus by wire is too. It's a keeper

Alik gave it a glowing review: https://alikgriffin.com/nikon-z-40mm-f2-review-and-sample-photos/

The New Z 400 2.8 has caught my eye, just looking at some of the images and video of it looks to be fairly light and maybe under 3000g this would put it lighter than my 200-400 f4

Cameralabs reviewed the Z 24-120/4 S, and also compared it to the 24-70/4 and 24-200.

An Australian store lists the Nikon Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S lens for the equivalent of 13,500 USD (incl. tax) - Nikon Rumors

AU$ 23,000.00 in Australia

I just saw it go live in the US:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1669888-REG/nikon_nikkor_z_400mm_f_2_...981&

Nuts! (but at the same time, good that there's still demand for these kinds of lenses)
