Question for Nikon users

My wife is using D1 at work and for warious reason the camera is failing.
She is using this lens. (Nikkor-micro AF60/2.8)
They would, like to upgrade camera to D90. The only question is: Will D90 take that lens???

Thank you,

regards
Peter

Axl, I dont have the Nikon D90 but as far as I know I think that it will take it. I think that this will help Nikon SLR Camera & Lens Compatibility Chart

AFAIK only the cheapest models do not support non AF-S lenses (they don't have the in-body focus motor) and the D90 is a mid-range model. I believe it will work nicely.

Yes, it will work just fine on a D90. The only lenses that will not are MF pre AI-S lenses (AI lenses are kinda the equivalent of the Pentax A series.)

If you try to put a pre- AI lens on a D90, you could damage it.

Any autofocus Nikon-mount lens will work perfectly on a D90.

This is true, the D40/D60/D5000 will not work with any AF lens, only the ones with in-body motors - designated by AF-S or sometimes G. (A "D" lens like this 60 macro works fine on a D80/D90/D300/D700/D3.)

Another reason why the D40/D60 is such a stupid purchase, IMO, I'd buy a *istD before a D40 any day.

I made the mistake of picking up a D40. Great camera, but extremely "dumbed down". If you never plan on picking up another lens, I guess it would work out fine. I agree on the *istD statement, I wonder why they're not more mainstream. I'm guessing because Ken Rockwell doesn't endorse them?

To clarify, the AF-D 60 Micro will not autofocus on the D40/D40x/D60/D5000 cameras. I use mine on my D40x all the time in manual focus. I guess you just have to know what you're doing and, no, I wouldn't trade my D40x for the istD. I like my K200D just fine.

The AF-D 60 Micro will work perfectly on the D90 and, in my opinion, makes an excellent short telephoto lens. When I purchased my lens I was expecting it to be a good macro. I was very pleasantly surprised by it's performance as a general telephoto and the out of focus areas in my images are fantastic.

Well technically, the D40/D60/D5000 will mount any Nikon lens, even pre-AI so it works in that sense. But like you said, it won't AF.

I actually bought a D40 specifically for the unrestricted flash sync speed. But I wouldn't be happy with it as my only camera, and I use the D700 way more often.
