I'd wager she got a bum copy of a lens, I got a 40d refurb w/ 28-135mm is a few weeks ago and I just couldn't get any really sharp pics with it and had to send it back. The body was really nice though but it was a kit so it all had to go back. Maybe you could take it to a store and try another lens on it.

Good place to start, but her 500 dollar plus super zoom gives the same crappy results.

I am downloading her pics right now, from her Canon to the laptop..........10 megapixel shots and a slow laptop will take a few minutes.

So while we're waiting for her pics to download, this is what I did for comparisons..........

I took a diet coke can, set it out on the balcony and took a picture of it with her Canon and then my K100D to compare the quality.

So for now, while we're waiting for this stuff to download, go get a beer.

Ughhhhhh..............her battery is dying in her camera, it was only half way done downloading, she wants to go for her 5 mile walk (with me.......of course, it's only 80 degrees out right now!!!!)...........so the pressure is just too great to get the pics up loaded.

Need to get her battery on the charger, get my walk in, and then get back to business.

Ok, we're back from our walk.

Wierd? No, just lots of stuff going on today and it's hard to stay on one subject at a time. Walks, batteries dying, etc.

vmax84

Anyway, I'm starting the upload again now.

IS? I'm not too sure what that means, however, I'm thinking that means the stabilation is built into the lens. I would ASSUME (love that word since it always gets me into trouble!!) it does, since I don't believe the stabilation is built into the body like the Pentax stuff. Her 70-300mm 500 hundred dollar lens has it built in, since there is a switch on the lens body.

Maybe the kit lens is stabiliized, but I'm shooting at a high enough shutter speed where I wouldn't think it would matter.

vmax84

Upload still progressing of photos.

yes IS is stabilization. if the 18-55 is IS it will very clearly say it on the lens barrel.

im just trying to rule out differences in sharpness due to one body combo having SR and the other having no IS. shouldn't be too much of a difference if the shutter speed is high enough.... is she having trouble with blurry photos with both lenses?

Her kit lens looks exactly like that, but it does not have the image stabililator switch. Her zoom does have it, though.

ok, here's the Canon pic............250 shutter speed, 800 iso, hand held.

This shot actually is one of the better ones.
