Pentax. By the time I'm ready for full frame, Pentax will have one.

I hope so. However, i don't think Pentax is going to have one shortly.

Here's a handy link to m42 glass adapted to 5D Classic.

To shave or not to shave ? Nice list

M42 lenses on Canon EOS 5D - compatibility list
Can I assume GREEN means no modifications are needed?

I know Pentax bayonet lenses can be mounted on Canon cameras which have a smaller registration (sensor-to-mount) distance. Is that also true for Nikon?

I kinda like sony... Their ergo doesn't fit me all that well, though, and A900 cannot be shot without having a proper lens attached to it (ie no M42), IIRC.

I love the low iso files from the Sony, and the Zeiss glass is as good as anything out there. I just don't like the look once it climbs above iso800, and I don't like Sony as a company.

I had a similar thinking process to nostatic last month. I went with the D700 for a few reasons :
  • Body design fit my hand better
  • Fast AF system
  • Smaller file sizes (I rarely print past 12x18)
  • No need for video
  • 85/1.4 AF-D - stunning
Need video, resolution, or their great lens lineup? Canon's the way to go.

High ISO - both Canon and Nikon are about equal once you consider the resolution. With either camera, you have 2-3 stops advantage over APS-C. I still use low ISO when possible of course.

5D2 as I'm a takumar junkie =o If they will come up with a model that does not require mirror shaving, I would get that in a heartbeat.
I'm actually keeping my K20D for the M42's (sold all the AF stuff already). The Tak 105/2.8 is good for streetwork, how are you doing with yours?

Yep, Canon can use Nikon lenses. Canon can use many other SLR lenses since their registration distance is very short. I think the only cam with less distance are the 4/3 system cams (Olympus, Panasonic). Maybe nostatic can confirm this.

The great irony is that the one lens mount you can't easily convert to Canon EF is Canon's own FD.

Haven't used it all that much honestly... I've been playing around with my earlier-acquired lenses like the 28 and 135 on the ME Super. From my short affair with it it does seem like a great range for street though, and I'm sure already that I love it way more than the 135 FOV wise.

Sony has some very very impressive zooms if you have the bucks.
and if I would start a new system from scratch today, those Carl zeiss zooms would have a huge factor on my decision.

at the end cameras comes and goes but lenses are for ever

Yep true that. I don't know much about FD glass, but there's plenty of great EF to choose from...

Yes, 22 years' worth and they all work fine on all bodies too. I'd rather have that than the mess of pseudo-compatibility the poor Nikon owners have to deal with.
