I like MF lenses. On the Pentax system I am very pleased with the unglamorous SMC 28mm f/3.5. All of my pics with that lens seem .. alive.

With my Minolta film gear it's my 20mm. Whenever it goes on the lens, it's pretty much stuck there.
so far it is
PENTAX SMC 55/1.8 screw mount
VIVITAR S1 135/F2.5 that I use maybe once a year
PENTAX FA 77/1.8 Limited
CANON 70-200 F2.8L is my absolute favorite

I can't say I've shot outside the Pentax fold very often so my choice is a Pentax MF lens. The K 200/2.5 just seems to be about perfect fit for my hand and I like the results.

Favorite glass would be a couple Pentax lenses, but favorite Nikon glass
would have to be the 180 AF ED IF 2.8 and 300 AF ED IF f/4.

180 @ f2.8

300 @ f5

For me, it would be a toss-up between the 24-105/4 IS and the 70-200/4 IS. The 24-105 has a bit of an edge simply because it stays on my camera the most. Here are a few examples of what I did with the 24-105 last weekend:

I love this lens not only for it's great IQ, but even on a cropped sensor, I find the FL range to be the most useful for walking around out of all of the lenses I have.

While I loved my FA ltd primes, moving to a different system forced me to look at different glass. I settled on Canon for a couple of reasons, some of them I can't really afford yet (35/1.4, 50/1.2, 85/1.2). But I did pick up the 24-105/4 IS (better than the 16-50* copies I tried) and the 50/1.4 (a lot cheaper than 31/1.9).

The lens that really sold me though was the 70-200/f IS. I tried it in the store and was smitten, and today my copy showed up. It is everything the 50-135* was and maybe a little more. With the FF the DOF is about the same, and the lens IS is at least as good as the body IS. But this thing is wicked sharp at all focal lengths and apertures. There is some fall off at 70mm wide open but that is about it. It isn't much heavier or bigger than the 50-135*, and in fact with 67mm opening seems almost a bit small on the 5D2.

So what's your "can't live without" glass?
Canon 70-200/ F4 USM L IS, is a splendid lens with a cult following. It is probably worth getting into Canon just for this lens. Congratulations.

P.S: Oh! my favorite is the Pentax FA 43/1.9 LIMITED.

My favorite glass holds one pint and has the NY Mets logo on it.
I use it only after a Mets win. I didn't drink much beer in 2009.
