New quirky Yashica camera, "digital Holga"?

Yashica debuts EZ F521 digicam / webcam / snoozefest

Cheap camera, mostly plastic lens (one glass element, 3 plastic), two focusing settings (macro and hyperfocal), optical viewfinder, limited controls. Anybody else think it looks like fun?

Same here, and I actually pre-ordered it. Should be here a week or so after it's released.

Alfisti: the same could be said about a Holga. You could get a decent Minolta SRT with lens for the price of one, and that is a far "better" camera. But sometimes it's fun to use more limited, screwball tools like these...

how did you pre-order? it looks a bit like a leica M8/M9 from behind. could prove to be popular in japan. I ran across this site a few days ago (really bet by the way) and I expect such a camera would fit right in over there. tokyo camera style

Placed an order with Dirk at Japan Exposures. $8-16 for shipping to USA.

Looks like a rangefinder, but probably isn't. If it were, I'd be interested!

It isn't -- the lens has two focus settings. Hyperfocal (1.5 meters to infinity) and macro.

One interesting thing though; with it effectively being manual focus, how will the shutter lag be? Is there any reason for there to be any at all?

edit: checked out your flickr, nice work!

Kind of reminds me of my Yashica Electro 35 GTN.

Might be a good starter for my kid.

It's sad when some company buys the rights to a once respected brand and uses that name to sell its junk. Kind of like what happened to Bell & Howell.

Bowe Bell & Howell is still in business making industrial equipment and they are quite capable of making their own junk, thank you.
At USPS we use their Letter Mail Labeling Machine or LMLM, which my coworkers say actually stands for Little Machine, Lots of Maintenance.
