Another Canon 7D indepth review

Another Canon 7D indepth review.

Still no price drops on 7D while Nikon D300s remains $220 lower than launch price, so $120 less than Canon 7D... In USA

I think $120 is a difference

I think $120 is a difference.

Heck when K20D launched at $1299 within a month I bought my first Canon 5D out of frustration with pentax predictable start high pricing. Had K20D launched where K10D launched at, $919 or so I would have continued buying pentax dslr (s). I eventually bought my K20D for $610 off launch price some 8 months after its launch. Same will happen with K-7, many Pentaxians bought it at $1299 and by April 2010 it'll likely be $699. A handy $600 savings just for waiting 8 months.

Take a Pentaxian who bought a K-7 at full list and then found it too small so he then bought its pentax grip for better handling. He paid more than a Nikon D300s costs today. And the D300s doesn't need a bigger grip for better handling.

$100 here, $120 there it all adds up.

Why do you expect canon to drop there price when they just brought out the camera? The reason why Nikon was able to drop the price was because the D300s was just an upgrade from the D300. The Canon 7D is a completely different camera from anything that they made.

Also you can't expect the price of Canon and Nikon to drop like Pentax. The original D300 was released in April of 07 for $1799 and a few months ago before the D300s came out, the msrp was around $1699. Two years and only $100 price drop is not much.

D300 did get down to $1359 for while

D300 did get down to $1359 for while. A friend got his prior to January 2009 price increases.

Nikon and Canon do not inflate their launch prices but they do compete. Seeing Nikon shed the $1799 list was fast. Yesterday the $1799 D300s was still $1579 at B&H. Canon 7D was still $1699 and Canon 50D was $979.

I saw a TV commercial last weekend where Canon was touting their "best in class" Full HD Dslrs. They showed all three:

Toy Rebel, 7D and 5D Mark II.

Last couple years I've received Canon Dslr and lens brouchure, their full line up 32 page slick color 8x11 added to my Sunday Denver Paper. Still waiting for this years brochure. Canon is serious about marketing

I agree with Canon being serious with ads. At my local community college the photo teachers used to shoot all Nikon mainly because that is what they shoot as a pro before becoming a teacher. About 2 years ago Canon dropped by and sponsored the photo department now everything we have is Canon and all the teachers shoot is canon. Every once a while a canon rep would drop by and show off there new toys. I got to play with the 7D a month before it was out in the market. He didn't let me take any pictures with a memory card but the overall built quality of the camera is great.
