Preproduction Canon T2i Up at DXO

Preproduction Canon T2i Up at DXO

Still no Pentax K-x at DXO to compare it to.

Looks like Canon T2i does OK against my Pentax K20D.
But neither excell against Canon 5D, 5D Mark II, Nikon D700

Approximately equals the 7D sensor in all measurements. I'm sold on this sensor. Compare to the D90 for an approximate idea of the K-x sensor's performance (same Sony sensor but slightly different RAW pipeline).

What APS-C sensor does do excell against the 5D i/ii or D700? lol

My 50D sensor excels against the FF ones when it comes to pixel density.

It's nice to see that Canon can put out a great 18MP sensor while still improving overall image quality. Seems like they have somehow fixed the banding issue that's plagued some previous cameras (including my 50D) at high ISO. I see occasional banding in the shadows at 6400 and no amount of NR will really fix it.

That's what psychs me up so much about the noise performance of both the 7D sensor and the K-x sensor. No banding. Give me grain or I'll add it myself, but don't arrange it in patterns!

Nikon D3x and Sony a900 use same sensor but

Nikon D3x and Sony a900 use same sensor but Nikon D3x is better in all measuements at DXO.

Until I see K-x numbers at DXO I cannot assume they'll mirror the Nikon D90.

Heck, some people have written the K-x uses same sensor as D300 Nikon.

I wonder why Pentax hasn't sent DXO some Pentax K-x to test ?

You should check out Falk Lumo's RAW analysis work. The D3x and A900 use sensors of nearly identical design, but the RAW data is handled differently and there may be some functionality reserved for Nikon that SONY is locked out of, as a result of Nikon's role in designing the sensor. But the sensors are not, for all intents and purposes, "the same." Their RAW output is very different, as is attested to both by dXomark's figures and by user analysis (this has been hashed out quite a bit on the luminous landscape forums).

Also according to his work, the D5000, D90, and K-x do indeed share a sensor. This does not mean that dXomark scores for the K-x will be the same as that for those two cameras, but it does mean that the RAW data will be the same, with some minor but expected variables (dXomark's scoring system is screwed up...).

The D300 uses a different sensor (a lower-performing one than the one in the D5000, D90, and K-x, at that).
