I dunno about the ergonomics of Canon. I prefer the Design of Nikon and Pentax on bodies

I'm seeing a few 7Ds up for sale only after a short time ownership here in Toronto...maybe that's a sign of sorts? Only problem is they want the same as they paid or current retail pricing after shooting for a few days or weeks

You usually see this after a new body is released; people are expecting a miracle and when it turns out to just be a camera they sell it. Same for the 50D, Mark IV etc... interestingly the Rebel series don't have this trend, I guess people aren't expecting panacea when they get one.

The reports that i've seen are a mixed bag... overall people are happy, but a lot of big-glass owners were really disappointed.... some lenses that work just like they should on FF or 40D/50D just don't get any good results from 7D due to 18mp sensor...

And of course, a good deal of these who bought "the newest and latest technology" were hoping to see the "masterpiece"-button... didn't happen... again...

Which "big glass" doesn't perform well on the 7D? From what I've seen on FM/POTN all the big whites do quite well on it...

The 100-400 suffers from pretty spotty QC so wouldn't rely on those reports.

I'm only going to get 2 more lenses for my 7D the 10-22 EF-S and the EF-S 60 as i only shoot mostly wide now, if i need some reach i'll rent for the occasion until that becomes a task and probably just add the dam 70-210 2.8 IS II USM when it becomes cheap (now that's a joke in itself)

Meanwhile i'll continue my Pentax film collection slow but surely, in the end it's all going to be passed on.

Oh i see a nice FE for my Nikkors which are only being used by a very worn and battered F2

Me , and it's so good that I don't ever need to make excuses for it or justify it to anyone.

However, the photographer takes the photo and not the camera, I've seen some absolute rubbish on Flickr that have been taken with the 7D.

Oh, this thread is also verging on rubbish - big glass not working with the 18mp sensor? What utter nonsense.

Have to agree with the last. Working in a photoshop gives me a good chance to compare cameras. I was really thining about getting the D300s just because it feels much nicer to use, but the 18mp sensor on 7D is really something. Putting a any softish lens on D300s and 7D doesn't give much difference, but lets say you put on a Sigma 50mm 1.4 at f/4 on each and you can really start so see much more detail with 7D shot.

Not that most people would really need the extra detail, but it is still there...

After playing quite a lot with the 7D, I have to say it's a beast. Now, if Nikon would come up with a similar sensor...

I've handled Canon 7D maybe a dozen times now

I've handled Canon 7D maybe a dozen times now

Other than my desire to never buy any brand crop format camera again, 7D is appealing on some levels to me.
But I still prefer bigger viewfinder my full frame 5D & D700 provide.
16mm is 16mm, 14mm is 14mm.
Once I buy a 7D and their crop 10-22mm lens , well thats a 5D Mark II.
I may get a 5D Mark II or not, I've handled it locally a dozen times too.

At the moment I'm happy with my cameras, but that doesn't mean I don't read about newer models.
With Canon and Nikon I handle them locally right after launch.
Canon and Nikon take 80% Dslr annual market share so they are everywhere locally.
Many stores carry Canikon here whereas:

Pentax retreated from my local marketplace so no touchy feely for me.
No hands on, no test drives.

actually, i have as well, at local shops. the particular setup that interests me most is the one with sigma 50-500 + canon 7D setup. but that cost a bundle and i cant possibly afford it.
