"Built In Motor".

The later versions had motors built into the lenses, so they would be able to AF with the lower-end bodies that did not have motors, like the D40/D60/D3000/D5000.

The non-BIM versions are more highly prized, because on bodies like the D90/D300/D700/D3, they focus very fast. Basically the Tamron 28-75 2.8 non-BIM can AF about as fast as the AF-S Nikon 28-75 2.8, and is reportedly just as sharp or sharper - and costs 1/4 to 1/5 as much.

Here are some shots from today's outing with te D700 + new Sigma 24 2.8:

First, in low-lit children's museum, wide-open, ISO 3200, 1/160:

It provides a nice FOV for f/2.8 shooting, and will be a good indoor people
shooter. The tiny size of the 24 on the D700 helps mitigate the overall size of the
kit, and I can bring the D700 + 24 in my second-smallest bag.

Some shots after the museum:

I have some shots in front of that little yellow hose of my kids playing the bongo drums that I really like. But in general the lighting at the Children's Museum combined with the speed of the subjects over-taxes my abilities!

Thanks for the good explanation.

Some first shots from the 28-75/2.8. Nothing spectacular.

D3/3s/700 are often hyped for their high-ISO qualities, but what people normally do not realize is that with low ISO-settings they produce beautiful black where black should be. That is, shadows do not contain any colored artifacts etc. It gives nice tonality to the picture.

I recently got a D700 and 20mm Voigtländer. Quite happy with the results.
Too bad that it's manual focus. Altough the focusing ring and the construction is very nice. I'd say even better than some of the Ai-s Nikkors.

Any experiences with the CV40?

Those are nice shots, muus. I really tore myself up deciding between the VL 20 vs. an AF 20mm. In the end I decided that I'd be kid/people shooting enough indoors with it to require AF.

The more I see of real world FF experiences, the less enamored of it I become.

In particular, what fails to impress you, or is that just a dig at our photographic abilities?

BTW, the following article is one I always refer to when I hear people insist that FF is the be-all end-all ---> link.

For certain things, it's no better than aps-c. For other things, like high-ISO shooting, it's incredible. Pair it with a pro-level performing body like the D700 and it's.... Well, let's leave the superlatives alone.

I like those. I've never had a full frame camera before, but it really does seem like you get a lot more control of the DOF than when you're using a cropped sensor. Maybe it's just the fact that you can probably afford a more expensive lens than I can though.

Yes julia! It is indeed superb lens. On my list for sure. The 3rd shot with the staircase pops nicely.
