I would have added one more option: My Pentax gear suits me fine as it is. I'll add a FF when it becomes available...

That would have been my choice, too.

Ben

I am with you guys.

I am sitting on the fence yet. One of the possible plans is to sell everything except A 50/1.2, fast zoom (Sigma 24-60/2.8) and a flash and buy into one of the systems that offer full frame. But nothing has been finalized yet. Voted accordingly.

My choice wasn't exactly here. I have already dumped 90% of my Pentax gear, but have not yet bought the new system. However, I will be going Nikon. No FF from Pentax and the high price of the K-5 made me do it.

I could use a pickup truck for that price.

And yet the 645D is not a FULL FRAME 645... I wonder when the whining will start about that?

Please don't mock! I am seriously diminished because Pentax does not offer a full 645 format sensor at a $10,000 price point. The corporate idiots at Hoya obviously don't know how important this is to me and to owners of legacy 645 glass, particularly those with the FA 35/3.5 whose lenses are now only a marginally affective wide angle due to the crop factor.

Consider the whining officially started!

Steve

(Tongue firmly planted in cheek!)

(Would still really like to see a FF Pentax, but feel that would only be likely in some parallel universe where pink unicorns live.)

Steve, I'd love to see both a FF 35mm format AND a FF 645 format... but I think not only will those pink unicorns of yours have to exist but they will have to be able to fly as well...

Did someone say Unicorn?

Don't mess with them. They look innocent enough but pack a punch!

I must admit, I was looking at some old photos from the 90s taken with my full frame Pentax MX. IQ is not that great - user error and such - but there is some pixie dust in those shots. Film or FF or nostalgia - what's the source?

In the midst of switching here. Moving to Nikon FF...and once comfortable enough with new gear to hold shoots I will be selling off my Pentax gear. Loving my D700!

Always hard to fit into multiple choice. I wouldn't be here if Pentax weren't suitable for the foreseeable future. If my needs were to change, I do presume I could afford the stuff to go with.

And if Pentax weren't making what I needed by then, I don't think I'd be bitter for them having been making what I need *now.*

May never happen, and if I had that kind of budget I might well be just paying a pro lab and working film, instead of a computer company.

I think people lose sight of the fact that even if I had the budget and need for something like a D700 or D1*burp* or EOS 1*burp* ...what I'd be shooting in *these* years from brands that share a lens mount wouldn't have been making me happy.

Most of us who are concerned with these things are and have been toting Pentax for a reason, and likely went out of our way to do so in the first place.

What's to be bitter about? Like we say, merry meet and merry part. Maybe merry meet again.

It's certainly no occasion for Pentax to get complacent or put on airs, of course. I'm really not that interested in them trying to out-Canon Canon or out-Nikon Nikon, though. But I'm here in the first place cause I'm in their 'niche.' I mean, their flash system ain't state of the art, but you know what got my attention? Them still putting a plain old PC terminal on a camera that I could obtain. Sometimes you want the basics, and you want em solid and accurate.

That little PC socket, in a world of gigabytes and nanoseconds and whatsits, showed a bit of consideration. Few things annoy me more than an engineer saying, 'You don't need that!'
