More from Paris:

Pantheon Panorama.. I don't have a proper UWA lens so I tend to try and do panos when I want something wide. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. This one turned out ok I think.

The view outside our apartment rental faced Gare d'Austerlitz. Very convenient location but the metro passing by was pretty loud!

Left: One of the big clocks in the Musee D'Orsay. Right: Gare Montparnasse.. obviously a train station with so many rail lines running towards it.

Sunset over Paris. No monuments to be seen in this direction!

Left: Pedestrian-only street full of bistros. A friend said it reminds her of Van Gogh's "Cafe Terrace at Night". Right: Part of the park at Chateau de Versailles.

La Conciergerie.. originally a royal palace but eventually converted to a prison.

twilight_samurai - love your Pantheon Panorama (there is of course the advantage of less distortion if conditions enable you to use e.g. a 28-35mm lens for your panos). And your Bistro Street is excellent too !

That tower of rock is amazing Frogfish - cracking work.
Thanks Mark, still regretting the backlight though. I really will have to go back there - maybe a snowy winter scene and viewing in the a.m. instead of the p.m.

I almost didn't take my camera with me yesterday because of persistent light rain - the worst kind:

Took a walk to Rydal along Under Loughrigg.

Nikon D800 24 - 70 at 24mm f/6.3 1/25 ISO 500

24 - 70 at 24mm f/8 1/60 ISO 400

From my research:
1. It appears that the 28/1.8G is fine on low density sensors like D700 but on D7000 and D800 is is found wanting.
2. If you go to Photozone and look at the tests you see it does worse on the D7000 than the D3 they use for FF. It's got some weird resolution 'dip' in the mid-range of the Full-Frame which shows up badly on the D7000 in the corners and the corners are garbage on a D800 anyway.
3. It seems to show diffraction earlier than you'd want on higher res sensors

It depends on what camera you want to use it as to how good it is.

I bought a 35/1.4G and find that lens to be fantastic on my D800E.
Thanks for the input! Well, i've also read some less good things about it, seems it has a weird curvature sharpness showing up in landscape tests. "They" are complaining about it the *landscape folks". On the other hand there's the casual users wich use the lens as an all purpose lens, and they think its fantastic....

So i guess it depends on the usage....

Im holding my breath though... its either 28 1.8G or the upcoming Sigma 35 1.4A, will be interesting to see how the Sigma will compare to the Canikon 35 1.4 lenses.

Picked up a new 50mm f1.8D for just over £80 delivered. I just thought it was a nice focal length on ff. Not really bothered about the 24-70. Its a zoom that didn't really bother me much on the K-5. Very impressive sharpness stopped down.

Hi All, I still am feeling quite a bit of pain re' my wounds from my operation a week ago so it's been hard to get around the place. Not that I've got amazing vistas at my finger tip like some of you have anyway.

The following picture is not interesting for any other reason than the bokeh and I thought it was worth uploading for that alone. It's of a Rose bush and Geraniums in my front yard at sunset.

Cheers - I was taking a gent round a rather wet lake District all day Tuesday and Wednesday and the best light from the two days was when we took a wee detour to my favourite roadside van for the rare treat of a bacon and egg roll (we'd been out walking from well before dawn to get to a favourite vantage point and were a bit hungry).

I seem to have been in a black and white mood for a bit. Strange, as I love colour but black and white seems to be in my subconscious.

Great shots all!

I had a dilemma tonight. Do I take my wife to bed or my new Sigma 85mm 1.4? For the sake of peace and harmony in the universe of course I will choose......my wife.

But gee it was a close call! What a beautiful piece of equipment! And of course I mean my wife......

Twilight, I love that shot of the people silhouetted by the clock. Some great work on this page.

I was playing around with the trial of Nik's HDR Efex Pro 2 last night. The result of three bracketed shots with the 5D, 24-105. Shot handheld, so it appears HDR Efex's alignment algorithms are quite good. I might go back and reprocess....some of the edges seem a bit oversharp/overcontrasty to me though that may just be a fact of life with a overcooked HDR like this.
