Nice! I like your mono processing. I especially like the first...there is a nice balance to the three trees.

To follow up the 24-70 trend...

Shot a few hrs ago. Kind of an overcast here. Still learning the D800. I'm starting to understand why folks really say you need to hone your skill to really maximize the potential of the 36MP. I may need to start carrying a tripod more often...definitely some camera shake in these that I don't think I would have noticed with a 20MP sensor. Anyways, hardly noticeable unless you're looking closely.

EDIT: DOH! Just noticed a few dust spots that I missed in PP

Thanks - I don't find that I always need the use of a tripod with the D800. I do have a fairly steady hand, but on wide angles if your shutter speed is above 1/100 I don't think you'll have too many issues, it's all about grounding yourself and the way you hold the camera.

I often only notice dust bunnies when I am using the save for web tool in CS6. I have some already and only had the sensor cleaned about 3 weeks ago.

Elsewhere in Burleigh House gardens there are plenty of deer. They are fairly timid and will allow you to get fairly close.

I bought a Sigma 35/1.4 and it's pretty amazing. My 35/1.4G will be going up for sale in a day or so. This lens is pin sharp wide open and the Bokeh is pretty much the same. Apart from the strong vignetting it kicks the Nikon's backside, even without lens corrections in Lightroom.

Looking forward to the Sigma 35 photos. Supposed to be a great lens! It's really great to hear the third party manufacturers are really giving the name brand folks good competition, at least in some areas. Can only be good for the photographer.

Went out to shoot some fireworks tonight...thought they were cancelled due to weather and then left late. Literally got three photos in, two of which were blurry. But afterward I wandered around down by the local harbor and got some shots in. The D800 is really a joy to use for night photography beyond the live view shortcomings. My subjects tonight were well enough lit that the AF was able to lock on and generally was spot on. The 24-70G rocks for this stuff.

Most of these were f/5.6 and 15-30 secs at ISO 100. (Except the fireworks, which I did at ISO 1250 or something).

Posting this last one because I thought it was funny that they had this ship tied off to this tractor. I guess they can move it when the tide comes up, but it just looks so puny.

-15°C I guess, but nonetheless an amazing experience - I should do this more often, as I used to in the past...

@jsherman999: great perspective! Have you tried b/w?

It looks as though I will be returning the Sigma 35/1.4 on Monday. It's definitely sharper in the center and has less CA than the Nikkor but the foreground rendering on landscapes is pretty terrible. The Nikkor has a more natural way of going to OOF in the foreground and seems much better for landscape. The Sigma has a similar look to the foreground bokeh of my Sigma 50/1.4 which I'm not all that fond of in that way. It's a nice lens and I'm sure it would have specialist uses in the studio but I can't afford to hang onto two 35/1.4 lenses. My 1st D800E is also unable to focus this lens correctly whereas my 2nd one needs no adjustments at all.. I'm convinced there's still something amiss with that body.

Anyway, I may upload some shots in a day or so but I need to renew my flicker and PF forum financial status 1st.

PS: This is the issue that seems to be a problem for the lens and the way it draws OOF features in the foreground.
From the Lenstip review:

"You can’t have any serious reservations concerning the defocused light points. Perhaps the light spread is not perfectly even but the local extremes and rings are not very intensive. There is just one thing that makes us worried – even after a significant stopping down of the lens the circle is significantly distorted in the frame corner."

Nice shots and usage of bounce flash. Is he your son? What does he have in his hand in the 2nd to last photo?.. it looks like a piece of poop!

Thanks, much appreciated! Yes, he's my son, and yes... that is a fake poop
I think the purpose from start was educational, but no one in my family have the ability to act serious around such things... so... nope, nothing educational happening here
