Thanks. Yes, the price to pay to be able to stack filters on a really wide angle, I guess.

Nice! Kudos esp. to Tuco and Mark. And very big Kudos at that. You guys really know what you're doing.

I just gave the Zeiss 18 a try. Very good color, contrast and center sharpness but the corner performance was a massive letdown--so bad you could see it at a normal view, and often distracting. It does seem that the 21 is THE lens, though not wide enough for me. I think I'll get the 16-35 instead. My experience with that lens has been better. But maybe I got a poor copy of the Zeiss (if that's possible).

Here is a minimalist shot I took yesterday with it. The lens is getting returned; a decent lens, just not up to my landscape work.

I fumble my way through these shots. But they are fund to do when it is raining and ugly outside.

Yeah, I tried that 18mm in the store. Though small, it's not much of a performer over-all.

Nice set Swede and nicely vibrant landscape Frogfish

Not my norm - a favour for the bride who I've known for a long time.
Thanks Mark. I'm sure the bride will love that shot.

It's still a lovely shot. The 21mm is one of my most used lenses, on a recent holiday I took 4 lenses, three were hardly used (Zeiss 35/2, Sigma 50/1.4 and Nikon 85/1.8) but the 21mm and Sigma 120-300 were with me everywhere. The 21 is a stunning lens.

I've not been getting much use with the 16-35mm - not sure why. I had thought of going for the Zeiss 18 but it does get quite mixed reviews. I already have the Nikon 24mm f1.4 and I don't think there is enough of a difference between that and the Zeiss 21mm to go for that.

That was kind of my thought on trying the Zeiss 18: I just didn't think there would be enough of a difference between 21 and 24 (though each mm on the wide end is fairly significant). But the Zeiss 18 just doesn't live up to my standard on the D800. Oddly, my brief excursion with the 16-35 on a D600 produced better results (it just had a QC issue). This is contrary to the charts I read on photozone, so I'm thinking I might have a poor copy of the Zeiss 18. I have a hard time going for a $2k lens anyway, so the Zeiss 21 or 14-24 would be pushing it.

The UWAs that are likely up to the D800 (well for that matter, D600 and D3x) after much searching: Samyang 14, N. 14-24, N. 16-35, Zeiss 15 & 21, N. 24 & Tokina 16-28. The Nikkor 17-35 seems to get pretty mixed reviews anymore. I'll probably just try another 16-35, though of course, they are nowhere to be found here in the USA, and I'm leaving on a big roadtrip in two weeks.

Borrowed a friends Tokina 11-16mm.. didn't bother with DX mode on my D800. At 16mm it sure has no problems in FX mode!

Nice shots with the Tokinas lads!

Just started a poll on LinkedIn asking what FF camera do you use. So far 32 replies, 10 D800 and the rest Canon Mk2 or 3's. I was surprised at the number of D800's.

A recent black and white.

Some excellent landscapes going up at the moment, good work fellas. Marklj, your bridal portrait diversion works well for me too.

Change of pace with my first track action of the year, felt a bit rusty but it was lovely day for it.
