Like that Porga - nice bit of space and great tones.
Thank you, very much.
That place has a potential, but with longer lens 8this one was cropped a lot) and with better weather/light conditions.

Great shot of the pooch, Mark!

Well, I've officially joined this club. See you all in a bit once my D800E arrives :-)
Looking forward to your images. What lens are you starting with?

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to shooting with it.

I'm starting out with the 16-35 for now, and then I'll think about other glass once I see how it all suits me. Also, waiting for the bank account to recover a bit -- time to start selling off some of the Pentax glass I don't use!

The 16-35 is quite an unwieldy beast when you are used to the compact nature of the Pentax. I bought the wee 24mm 2.8D first and found it to be a great landscape lens at around f8. Brilliant value for money - great focal length on FF as well. Even bought the 24mm f1.4 I liked the focal length so much (and I'm coping okay on one kidney).

I'm somewhat surprised how much I like the AF-D 24-120 lens on the D600

Not bad. That's a pretty compact zoom

Water:
D800E & Sigma 150 OS Macro

Neat photos bossa.. I can't really tell what's in the photos (I'm assuming water as per your description). It'd be interesting to see a non-macro shot pulled back to reveal the mystery and to add context.

Thanks for commenting TS, I'm glad you found them interesting.

It was only a few drops of water sloshing around on a DVD in sunlight - the spectra are caused by the DVD.

I mounted the DVD data side up on my old Slik tripod and took a few shots from varying angles to try and make some abstract expressionist type images. I would have liked to have had someone helping out by pouring more water and vibrating the disc a bit but I was working alone.

I wanted to get some clouds reflected in the disc but DOF didn't extend that far whilst focusing about 2" from the front element of the lens. LOL But I'd like to explore a few more setups and to include more surroundings in the shots if possible.

In this image you can see part of my house and a tree but they aren't very clear. This image wasn't abstract enough anyway because you can see it's a pool of water on the edge of a disk and my idea was to try and capture the nature of the material rather than just take a picture of a drop of water.

Cheers
Steve

I had considered one of the fast 24s, particularly for wide angle narrow depth of field shots and night photography (the latter of which I do a fair amount nowadays). But I figured something with a bit more versatility would be a better entry point, and I've gotten used to using progressively larger lenses on my Pentax the past year, so it's the 16-35 for now. I've also been looking at the new 70-200/4, though frankly I don't know what my next purchase will be yet.

Usually when I'm in this thread I'm just admiring peoples' work and not noticing what gear was used, but I'm going to have to start observing what all are everyone's favorite lenses in Nikon-land to give myself some ideas. :-)

The only question is how the K-5 fits into this brave new world :-(

here are some Pentax lenses adapted onto the D800

P.S. there is a lot of softness created with the fotidox adapter.

What lenses did you shoot? I've given thought to trying my Super Taks without infinity focus and just shoot things and people at closer focusing range if that would work at all.

First one was FA77 @ f8. Second was DA15 fully stopped down as there's no A-ring on the adapter.

I'd like to see if there is an adapter without the optical element to correct for infinity. I find that it does soften the images quite a bit.
