Nice shots, Simon, especially the second. It looks like you used some fill in the first image, but what about the second?

---

Here's one last shot from last weekend with the 85/1.4, @ f/2.8. She was getting pretty cold in the high wind; quite a trooper enduring the long shoot!

Revisited a couple old haunts with the 24/1.4 this evening, as I sometimes like to do with new equipment. Quite the lens...

Thanks mate! Nah no fill light all natural! I know, not my style right! Client was after this a specific look for these portraits so I had to go against my norm routine/setup.

A few more

Nice work! I'd love a thread explaining this and how you made it.

Thanks. If you have some questions, I'll do my best to answer them. And I can give you the math to calculate your own. And most plans on the internet fall real sort on that end since most people are working with a given bolt/thread pitch someone else figured out. And you don't have to rotate that dial at 1 RPM either.

Calibrate the time on the dial to 0.5 RPM and it cuts your distance from the hinge line to the bolt by 1/2 too! This tracker is made specifically for short times and wide angle lenses. You rotate that dial every 15 seconds to match the elapsed time.

Girls HS Lacrosse

One of the significant benefits of higher-end FF shooting is the combination of excellent predictive AF and longer focal length glass. I began shooting girls LAX (high school club) last month for the first time. I've only been able to shoot the home games. It took me a couple of matches to begin to figure out the rhythm and flow of the sport (I still don't get the penalties). Fortunately, the games are played during the golden hour, though the field lighting is lousy (this is a small island community), and once it gets darker I sometimes have to jack up the ISO to 12,800 on my 5DMK3 to accommodate my 100-400L. So, below are a few good ones; most taken with a 100-400L, though at least one was with a rented 400mm f4 DO.
Thanks for lookin'.

No. 1

f5.6 @ 1/750, ISO 800, 360mm, Canon 100-400mm L

No. 2

f5.6 @ 1/1000, ISO 3200, 400mm, Canon 100-400mm L

No. 3

f5.6 @ 1/500, ISO 3200, 400mm, Canon 100-400mm L

No. 4

f4.5 @ 1/4000, ISO 800, 400mm, Canon 400mm DO

No. 5

f4.5 @ 1/3000, ISO 800, 400mm, Canon 400mm DO

No. 6

f5.6 @ 1/1000, ISO 3200, 330mm, Canon 100-400mm L

No. 7

f5.6 @ 1/1000, ISO 1600, 220mm, Canon 100-400mm L

No. 8

f5.6 @ 1/750, ISO 3200, 220mm, Canon 100-400mm L

Seattle from Jose Rizal Bridge
I was trying a long exposure while on that bridge. But heavy vehicles constantly going by were causing it to bounce and ruined my shots. I had to take the shot on solid ground from that spot.

Thanks. Yeah, for a couple of minute max exposure, a motor is really not needed. You'd want a curved bolt or double barn door if you're going to add a motor I'd think.

Yeah, that bridge has a distinct wobble when a bus or even certain cars roll by. Shutter speed for me at the ideal point during blue hour at the ISO and aperture I use tends to be between 15 and 30 seconds -- just short enough to occasionally get a lucky break in the traffic. On some occasions I have taken much longer exposures there: 8 minutes, ~50 minutes, granted the first is a composite and the latter is a stack. You do have to sacrifice resolution though, with the microblurring from the bridge wobble.

Drove from Christchurch to Queenstown today - originally had a flight booked, but decided to change arrangements even though flight was non refundable, and drive via Lake Tekapo, and drive down Mount Cook Road. It meant that my drive from Mount Cook to Queenstown was in the dark, but the light was glorious, and I've hardly even started looking at the shots yet, but here are a few I've had a little play with:

Lake Tekapo:

Mount Cook and Lake Pukaki:

Mount Cook and Mount Cook Road:

Mount Cook range almost an hour after sunset (15 min exposure)

Tuco....Come Back! You don't need to be carrying around a big heavy machine when a smaller one will work wonders for you...just like it used to...remember?
There is no beer on Beer Fridays, not much conversation, just a few guys left with Toy Cameras.....Sell that Big Rig and get the X-T1...you know you want it, and we need you.....do it for us, do it for your aching back!

Regards!
Rupert

BTW- Just this personal note between me and you......these guys over here don't appreciate you like we did. They all think their Big Guns are better than yours......we were never that way...remember?
