thanks for the reply's, i am pretty certain i want the d700, although i hope it won't be too heavy for me, i am going to try one at a camera shop before buying.. the only thing that might make me go the d7000 is video, as my partner is pregnant and might want to take footage of the little one..

I went with the D700 and the following lenses for a set up (just waiting for the Tamron to arrive)

Sigma 70-200 HSM
Nikkor 85/1.8
Sigma 50/1.4 HSM
Tamron 28-75 non-BIM

My last two pieces will be the SB700 flash when it's released next month and the D300s as a back up/2nd body. I'm going to go with the D300s instead of D7000 because I can share batteries and memory cards between D700/D300s and D300s/D7000 are fairly close in specs and price right now.

Nice!

Any particular reason you went with the D300s over the D300?

Do you do a lot of videography?

Lotta great work in this thread. Ben, there are a couple killer shots with that 135/2 that I hadn't seen before. Not that I needed any more convincing.

Nice to see other dual-system people in here. That's what I'm planning to become, assuming I like the K-7 as much as I'm hoping! Here are a few FF snaps from today....D3 + Zeiss 100/2 Makro-Planar:

Thank you, sir. I took about a dozen shots in the same spot, trying to find the right comp and background. There were only two that I really liked. The other one is very different, and I haven't done any P/P on it as yet.

I choose the D300s over the D300 only because of new availability (I can't get a 300 new in my area). I'm not a video shooter, however having a DSLR that does it is a bonus, and once the SB700 flash arrives I will be selling off my Pentax gear (i.e. no K-7 with video), as my kit will be complete.

As for the Sigma 50/1.4...I absolutely love the lens. I loved it on Pentax, so it was a no brainer for Nikon. I chose it because I knew I loved it already and because I did want a 1.4 lens in this focal length because I was going to run a FF/APS-C set up.

To be honest, I have the Nikkor 85/1.8 and I find that it appears to use OK materials, but it's build quality does leave something to be desired (noisy when you jiggle it). I may actually swap that lens out for the Sigma 85/1.4 when it becomes available in Nikon mount as well.

I'm a big fan of the Sigma EX line (what I've used Sigma 30/50/70 macro/70-200). In many cases I think they are just about as good as the manufacturers best, and I've only had good copies that have stood up to lots of use.

Jay...how do you downsize your pics for web? They are really sharp, even at your posting size (mine soften up a fair bit).

P.S. Love the compressed background in the 300 images!
