I just picked up my new 70-200VR2 and I really feel guilty. I'll post some shots later when I get back from a field trip.

Hehe.. Cheers!

Yeah, my arms are a tad sore after my walk around. I haven't worked out in the gym for a few weeks after the back issue. Earlier I compared a few identical shots from the DA50-135 to this and I have to say that lens kicks arse. If the new Pentax is 24mp it really would be a nice combo and almost rival this camera and lens ( as you say, this thing weighs a ton).
I'll see if there's anything worth uploading after this conversion has finished.

Back in the Lake District where the weather has been so poor that they have cancelled the Great North Swim on Lake Windermere - because of too much water! Could only happen in the UK!

The Olympic flame came through Ambleside a day or two ago. Here is one of the torch bearers:

Canon 5D mk III EF 28 - 300L at 300mm and f/8 1/320 and ISO 1600 (very dark and damp afternoon -the bearers on the following day would have had a very unpleasant time of it)

This little steamboat is one of the on water convoy for the torch, as the torch would be taken on to a boat down to Bowness:

Canon 5D mk III Carl Zeiss 35 f/2 at f/8 1/80 ISO 200

in black and white:

A very wet day yesterday and looking down a pier at Waterhead:

Canon 5D mk III CZ 35 f/2 at f/8 1/125 ISO 125

A swan stood in the rain on the beach at Waterhead:

Canon 5D mk III CZ 35 f/2 at f/8 1/80 ISO 200

A barn in Galava Field between Waterhead and Ambleside:

Canon 5D mk III CZ 35 f/2 at f/8 1/40 ISO 125

Great shots mate.. I wish I was there at this time. The weather here has been lousy and I've been feeling pretty negative. I'm not sure I did the right thing buying this Nikon either... I don't get as many motion-free shots as I did with the K-5.

You'll get there. I found when I got the 645D (due back from repair on Tuesday) that the extra resolution, while welcome also drew attention to things I didn't want to be brought attention to. It takes some getting used to.

Cheers..

My main issues are getting used to the DOF difference and the fact that even with VR lenses I still manage to get more motion blur than I'd like. Of course that is amplified somewhat by the extra resolution I suppose.. I hope I can work it out as it's cost me an arm and a leg.

Yes the great conundrum that is: Larger Sensor= shallower DOF and deciding whether to risk diffraction by making the aperture smaller in order to increase DOF. My advice would be not to obsess with pixel peeping at 100%. Decide what your preferred viewing size is and work at improving the view of that first. Don't be frightened of using smaller apertures: I use f/11 - 16 on my 645D regularly when I need the foreground to b e in focus: it's no good having a perfectly focussed subject with a lovely lead in line when the lead in line is OOF. A shot that is slightly softer due to diffraction is far superior to one that is sharp but with substantial parts of the shot OOF. I only occasionally use an APS-C camera (Canon 7D) so am usually using narrower DOF.

Exactly! My Zeiss lens is useless beyond f/16 on this sensor.. the diffraction is very bad indeed. In fact going beyond F11 or 16 (depending on the lens) seems unwise. I am tempted to hang on to my Pentax glass and see what they come up with re' a K-5 replacement.

But hopefully I'll get the hang of this format soon though...
