I was back at the Superbikes at weekend trying a Sigma 100-300/4 on for size, also with matching 1.4TC. Going longer than this looks a little pricey

^^^ You and me both!

It was also nice to see from your photos that they are not all framed too tightly. I see too many motorsports photos that do not capture anything more than just the rider. It was nice to see the flow of the track and atmosphere in some of your photos.

Thanks everyone, bikes are great to shoot because even if you get the shutter speeds a little too high, all the leaning over and wheelie popping still gives dynamic photos

Ironic that with the 100-300 and (at times) 1.4x converter, these are about the most tightly framed track shots I've managed

My D800 and it's sexy long legs
There was a lightning storm and I was out for a bit hoping to get something.. but timing wasn't working for me.. so no good shots to work on.
This was taken with a K100D/50mm f1.7

At least you still have a Pentax camera. I sold both K-5s and have a bag full of glass I can't use.. I have located a used Nikon 300/4 (current) that I might buy tomorrow... still, my plan was originally to just use the D800E for landscape and portraits but since I sold my Pentax cameras I have been short on Tele's

PS: Looks a lot like the last "War of The Worlds" tech to me... ridiculous as it was it still kinda worked.

PS2: The only thing missing from that picture is a mini hand pointing upwards and onwards..

Well I returned the K100D today.. it was a loaner from a friend while I awaited the D800. That being said I handled the K-30 today and I think (personally) that as good as it is on paper.. ergonomically it's a disaster.. After using the K-5 for a year, trying a K-x, shooting with the K-100D for a few months.. the K-30 felt the worst in hand of any of these.. Button layout is awkward (especially the green button), and for being a smaller DSLR the grip side feels very squared off and made for very small hands, the shutter button is almost on a flat plane.. It was simply not comfortable.

I'm thinking about buying a K-5 again after selling mine. Unless I sell off my Pentax glass and just forget the brand I'm going to be plagued with that mistake. I bought a used AF-S 300/4 today and when I got it home in a quiet environment I could here the focus motor screaming for mercy.. needless to say I returned it to the shop for a refund. I doubt I can bring myself to shell out $1700 for one of those lenses when i have a perfectly great FA*300/4.5 sleeping in a case.

Anyway, I took some shots outside the store.... but I left DX Crop Mode on again... Doh!

Seems to suffer pretty bad flare... and this is just from a bus headlight..

I saw a few posts in another thread on here of a blue one and I thought it looked really bad.. like a plastic toy.

Some shots of Singapore at night.. so much has changed since I was last back home!

"Supertrees" at Gardens by the Bay

Bayfront from the Helix Bridge

D3, Sigma 12-24

Not sure how this diffraction and starburst thing works on FF, need to experiment more.. But I realized the D3 sensor is a total dust magnet! Got to remember to clean the sensor before embarking on these tripod-mounted shoots (I usually shoot close to wide open so dust is hardly an issue most of the time)

Fantastic shots! Wish I could afford to travel!
Remember to shut off your camera when swapping lenses, I remember reading somewhere that leaving your camera on while swapping lenses attracts more dust to the sensor than when having it off... Not sure HOW much difference it makes.. I try to turn mine off all the time, but I'm probably only doing it 50% of the time.
How do you find shooting with the Sigma 12-24? Have you tried any other UWA lenses on FF? I'm interested in a few but haven't started really researching them.

I rechecked my AF Fine Adjust settings today:

70-200 needs -9
Sigma 85 needs -9
Sigma 150 needs -20 and that isn't quite enough (went back to the store to grab it the other day)
Sigma 50 needs -20

I called the local Nikon technician (a Japanese guy who was trained by Nikon and does warranty work here) and he wants to see my camera as he thinks there's something wrong with it.

I wish I'd known about this guy on day one instead of the stress I've had LOL...

I am very close to buying another K-5 right now...

BTW, anyone with a D7000 or D800 and who is interested in buying the new Nikkor 28/1.8G should check out both reviews at Photozone. The results on the D7000 are worse than the D3x they use.. it seems the lens falls apart on high density sensors..

PS: Does anyone know if there's a way to get into the OS of the camera and make a global AF adjustment. If I could make an adjustment of -10 that would probably fix my problems. Hopefully the Nikon Tech will be able to make such an adjustment though.

Some from my nephew's choir concert. He can be a right little so and so, but also quite cute when he is in the right frame of mind

Canon 5D mk III Sigma 85 f/1.4 at f/2.8 1/400 ISO 800

He was meant to have been acting dead at this point but couldn't stop himself looking up

Same camera and lens and settings

f/4 1/125 ISO 400

He directed me to the action on stage...

same settings
