I was doing a self portrait shoot yesterday (practicing some settings, lack of a real model). Here's one with my K-5.

Wide open, 5Dm2 with Canon 50mm 1.4 with tripod and timer. Cardboard box placed in my place to guestimate focus beforehand.

Own C&C: poor shirt choice (easy to blow out); sky patch above is distracting.

Am in Klagenfurt, South Eastern Austria at the moment and Hired a car today and took an afternoon drive down to the western end of Wörthersee to a town call Velden am Wörthersee. The weather cheered up after a few hours (we had major thunderstorms in the area which only abated when I got my camera out on a tripod on the balcony of my hotel room ready to put it on bulb - a camera shy storm whatever next!). Sat down awhile at the shores of the lake. The water is clear and as many alpine lakes are, a unique colour, but this one is at the moment verify warm - 27 degrees (81F).

Sat down a while and a family of sparrows came over looking for food.

Canon 5D mk III EF 70 - 200 f/2.8 IS I L at f/6.3 and 200mm 1/320 ISO 200

Same camera and lens:

f/5.6 1/640 ISO 200 190mm

Same camera/lens:

f/5.6 190mm 1/640 ISO 200

Have you tried any other UWA lenses on FF? I'm interested in a few but haven't started really researching them.
The Tokina 16-28mm is very sharp, but it isn't very good wide open... Then again, would anybody really use this lens wide open?
The Tokina 17-35mm F4 is very sharp as well. It is very good wide open and excellent just about everywhere else.

Distortion is extremely well controlled on the two Tokinas and bests the Nikon UWAs easily. Optimal sharpness between these two Tokinas and the Nikon 14-24mm and 17-35mm are negligible.

It's surprising that these cheap Tokina lenses are as good as they are.

Hi again jay,

The used AF-S 300/4 I bought had a dud motor and a guy I met in a shop told me he had the model that you have and that it also had a dud motor. I didn't really want to experiment beyond a certain point when I have a FA*300 and a DA*200 2.8 here. I can't keep it all though..
The 300mm F4 IF-ED does not have a built in motor. It utilizes the camera's screw driven motor which is why it is a bit slower focusing than the AF-S model. You can minimize focus throw for a bit faster focusing.

Even though most wound consider it too slow for sports, I use mine rather often.

Haven't been able to shoot much (or do much) lately because we have a new addition to the crew:
