Some beautiful stuff on this page. Desperate to get my lenses delivered - out practicing generic landscape shots to get used to the camera.

Awesome shots, I wish my generic landscapes were so good! : P

Cheers folks

On the recommendation of Ken Rockwell...... I bought a 28-70 f3.5 for a very low price on Ebay - boxed with hood etc. For £70 and for use as a stop gap only I like it.

Straight view back towards Penrith and the Lakes this morning. Left border isn't great at the wide end but the rest of the image is fine. For the money I am very impressed with the lens. Full picture and a 100% crop of a centre section below. I took this handheld whereas yesterday it was all tripod, mirror up, remote etc.

A couple more from yesterday and a few from today in various parts of North Eastern South Korea.

this is from the highest peak within Samyang Ranch at 1300m. Converted in silver efex pro2. I suspect I've overcooked the sky a little as originally it was fairly innocuous.

Nikon D800 Nikkor 14 - 24 at 14mm f/11 1/200 ISO 100

There are a fair few windfarms up there and I thought I would make the most of the wide end of my 14 - 24 to get some interesting perspectives:

Nikkor 14 - 24 at 14mm f/11 1/320 ISO 100

Nikkor 14 - 24 at 20mm f/11 1/160 ISO 100

The Autumn colours are in full swing here, with deep golds and even reds. This is at the base of the ranch

Nikon D800 Nikkor 24 - 70 at f/8 1/160 ISO 100

Today we went further North, (our hotel is within 35 miles of the North Korean border) and took a cable car part way up seoraksan mountain. At about 1600mm there were a few fingers of rock around. The climbing isn't the hardest, even so there are people speaking words of encouragement from a megaphone on the summit to get people to climb to the top. Before I did, I found an interesting angle between some rocks:

Nikkor 24 - 70 at f/11 24mm 1/60 ISO 100

converted to B/W in Silver efex pro2

One more before I go to bed - it's 01.30 am here - here's one from our drive to our hotel in Yang Yang which is famous for my favourite vegetable, the mushroom. We had crossed one river bridge and I saw a stunning view with the light getting better and better. However there was nowhere to stop and it was a busy road without a pavement. Thankfully there was another bridge with a similar view where there was a pavement.

Great stuff! I like the last one and apart from the blown highlights it's perfect.

Cheers mate,

I'm still doing way too many 'tests shots' to familarize myself with this gear but (apart from the past two days) the weather is picking up and I'll move beyond my yard.. lol

Still hurting from the sale of 1/2 my Pentax gear though

Steve...

I had simlar withdrawal symptoms when I sold a lot of my Nikon gear lol so I know just how you feel. Just remember its the results that count... and judging by the results you should be happy enough indeed. I still use Nikon too. Trust me... Nikon grows on you. Its just reliable. It performs as you expect. It simply builds your confidence and trust. Enjoy my friend. You wont be looking back for long.

Tough for metering as metering for the sun would have given me even more DR than even the D800 could cope with. Neither the camera or Lightroom designates the highlights as blown but there is no detail there.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great shot, a wonderful composition.. Sometimes I just shoot my mouth off for the hell of it. Apologies.

BTW, I have sold 1/2 my Pentax gear and was wondering what thoughts people had about second camera bodies? I was thinking of another D800E as I'd prefer not to be swapping lenses out in the wild these days (and I'd prefer the same workflow for both bodies) but there may be more informed ideas out there. One of each or both D800E, a D600....? Any suggestions would be cool.

Cheers
Steve
