I used the 5D (aka 5D Classic, 5DC, 5DI, etc.) for a few months and really liked it. I liked it so much that I decided to spend more on FF. Since then I've used a D600 and really like it, too, but I keep thinking about that 5D.

I'm blown away by how much I like the photos from the 5D, especially considering its cost. I bought it for 500 and sold it for 500. The Canon 50/1.4 was 250. Crazy good value.

My point is, if I have a point, is that hardly anybody around here uses the 5D, but it is a true jewel. Its most significant weakness is the lack of Auto-ISO. Another weakness was max ISO 3200, although the camera was perfectly usable at even ISO 3200 and you could push the exposure if necessary.

Other than that I think the 5D is a powerful tool even today. And anybody thinking of going FF should consider testing the waters with a 5D.

count me in.
I love the pictures I've seen from 5D and ISO3200 wouldn't be a limitation for me as my current body (1D3) goes to 6400 but I try to avoid that when possible. Auto ISO is of no interest to me either (although 1D3 can be tricked into sort of auto ISO, not sure if it's doable with 5D, I'm not using it anyway, or rarely) but the AF is. I switched from Pentax mainly due to AF and after comparing 5D2 to my 1D3 for AF there is just no way I can see myself going to that. In anything but good light the outer points are near useless. Last time I was trying to like 5D2 I put 50L on it and selected the point most to the left. Pointed it on Coke bottle against the red wall in dim light and it was just going, shhhh, shhh, shhh, shhh, shhh.... for about 15 seconds, then it decided it locked and I took a shot but it was miss. Not even near miss...more like a big miss. In the same light 1D3 with it's outer left point with the same lens did: shh, click. Defocus, shh, click...and so on. I took 5 shots. in about 5-6 secons, manually defocusing. 4 spot on, 1 near miss but close enough for web use. Shame as otherwise 5D2 would give me all I want...shame 5D3 is so expensive. And since 5D uses the same AF as 5D2 I don't want to spend the kind of money for camera that wouldn't let me take shots I like, unless I'd have it as a second camera

I am more than happy with my 5D. Since Neither I need the AF, nor the resolution. The largest I print is 30x45cm... Somehow I have settled. Sure I'd love to have a 24TSE, but with my 17-35, 35/2 and 85/1.8 I can cover 95% of my photography. Guess I am kind of the 3 lense guy. If Fuji comes up with a 23/1.4 and a TSE, I might be tempted for the size aspect.... but for now, the 5D and my K5 on travels is just right

You are not alone. I am a big fan of 5D classic. I think canon went a little aggressive with color processing in Mk II to follow Nikon. 5D is a great camera even today.

Last FF shot

For a week anyway. Shortly after this my old 1dsii developed a light horizontal bar, so I guess it is going to need a shutter after 260k clicks, it is due I guess.

great photos. I am checking this thread after a while. It looks like you are using a different processing than before. Results look great.

cheers,

Particularly like the last one - which 80-200 are you using. I need a longer lens and the 70-200 is just a touch pricey.

Good stuff this, the first and third especially grabbed my attention.

Here's a varied selection from my last couple of weeks - an album launch party, putting my Sigma 100-300 K mount up for sale and my first motorsport event of 2013.

A bit of work to get in position for dawn this morning but planned object didn't work so shot this to the side. Dawn looked to be fabulous on the other side of the hill behind me. Could just see glimpses of reds and pinks on the edge of the hill. This was from a few minutes after dawn.
