More random order, unstructured photos from me. I think in 2014 I need to place some emhasis on producing more cohesive series or sets of images.

One from yesterday and some from this evening although the conditions were very different this evening. I utilised the fact that I have a D800 as well as a D800E and switched on Long exposure noise reduction, switching cameras while waiting for the other one.

Nikon D800E 70 - 200 f/4

remainder are from this evening

converted in silver efex:

Nikkor 24 - 70 silver efex, 6 minute exposure:

A nice set Simon - what lens? I'm just in the midst of re-arranging everything. All the Pentax stuff is going, the Nikon lenses are changing a wee bit and I'm deciding on a second body. Two systems just isn't working and I think I'll try and get by with about 6 primes at the maximum.

I have mentioned this in other threads, but the main thing I love about full frame is the ability to take wide angle shots with a fast prime. I second shot for a wedding shooter a few weeks ago and he lent me his third body (Canon 5D) with a 24 f/1.4 on it to duo with my K-7 and lenses. It was so fun to try and the combo worked well enough together that I am considering buying a 5D just for the option of pairing the 24 f/1.4 with what I already can get with Pentax. The High ISO performance isn't as important to me. Or, I'll put it this way, it isn't important enough to me to spend more than $4,000 buying the camera and the lens.

On a side note, it was the first time I had ever used a Canon. Stupid rear wheel!

Some photos from the day with the 5D.

(Not the most flattering shot of the bride I took during the day, true, but I still enjoy it.)

Hey great shots. The limitations of the wide angle on a cropped sensor is one of the main reasons that I recently picked up a D600. Beforehand I had been shooting a lot with a DA 15mm, but coupled with the small sensor it just wasn't fast enough for the look that I'm trying to achieve. Right now I'm working with a 20mm 2.8 on FF which is a step in the right direction, but after shooting with the DA for so long I'm a little disappointed with the IQ and coating that is on the lens. I'm now eyeing the Nikon 24mm 1.4, but boy is it expensive...

Thanks Mark, all with the 180mm 2.8D (had off-camera lighting on the first 3 shots) , I really like that lens, its the kind of lens that always delivers and never lets you down
At the moment im with a 4 prime setup. Was thinking of adding a 35mm soon , there also a rumor of a FF 35mm 1.8G to come out soon so might wait and see whats that like before I pull any triggers.

Magical forest image, Mark. Was that with the 24/1.4?

I've only touched my K-5 once since I got my D800, and that was just to use the DA*300. With rumors of a new Nikkor 300/4 with VR around the corner, I might soon be saying a formal good bye to the Pentax rig myself. :-(

Ha! You always find the most warm ambient light; I had sort of come to assume you no longer used flashes and just directly commanded nature itself to provide you the appropriate late afternoon photons.

Superb image ! Also I have a question - do you have any more photos of that dog from your image ?? And what kind/race is it ? I remember from my childhood we had exactly the same dog - but my mum never knew the name of race as it was randomly acquired. --manntax

Thanks
Thank you, the breed is Rhodesian Ridgeback.
I have many photos of him, see here. :)
