Aon, I like the last two shots, especially the one of the rainbow in front of the waterfall. Do you know the story on the plane in the second shot?

So I took my first plunge into f/1.4 glass on full frame this week. Here are a couple from this evening with the 85/1.4 @ f/1.4:

I tried a few shots with the 24/1.4 but find it a bit difficult to handle, so far. The bokeh is really quite amazing, though, I'm looking forward to taking it out more.

A test shot with a Zeiss Otus 55mm f1.4 @1.4 on the D600:

Didn't have much time with it, but it's an amazing lens...sharp wide open, coma controlled well, bokeh is outstanding....I'm really curious how the new Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art will compare to it.

I'm not entirely sure about the plane. Apparently it crashed in 1973 because of running out of fuel. The crew survived, but the plane wreck was never recovered.

Thanks Simon, I remember you and twitch doing a lot of fine Ferris wheel work a while back with the 15. :-)

Here's one from yesterday afternoon at the beach on one of our first really nice spring Saturdays. 85/1.4 @ f/2.2. It was crazy windy on this pedestrian overpass above the train tracks, so my attempts at fill flash with an umbrella failed pretty hard! Consequently I cheated a fair bit raising the shadows in post processing:

[edit] And one from that afternoon, also with the 85/1.4 @ f/2.2. I've missed shooting with primes :-)

First real output from the 24/1.4. This is a tribute to an old image I did with the Pentax K-7 and the DA15 in the same spot a couple years ago. The foreground has been lighted by the full moon, directly behind.

Nice. Last summer I did a similar one but on my Hasselblad 500C/M for 15 minutes and had star trails about that long.

I'm almost done building a isosceles mount barn door tracker to do some astrolandscapes this summer. It will get me exposure times a little longer than the 500 rule. That is, divide 500 by your focal length to get the longest exposure time without getting noticeable star trails. I want to go a little beyond that time.

it totally detracts from the shot, so much so that i almost didn't post the pic.

imho, using 28mm focal length there is like trying to use a hammer when you really need a screwdriver

on the other hand, the environment is so harsh and brutal, nothing in any of those pics should be soft.

these super light balls of cactus thorns were floating all over the ground... a gust of wind, or maybe you walk by, and they jump on you

ripping 'em out with tweezers draws blood... if they go deep enough, they break off under the skin.

Great shot and funny too.

The Tamron is indeed a great lens although at 70mm it's soft and needs stopping down a stop or two. At all other FL's it seems to match the primes I have quite easily so I've decided to sell a few.
