Well two lenses arrived to much excitement, late yesterday afternoon (Zeiss Makro Planar 100/2) and today (Contax N 70-200). Unfortunately I found the Contax has a faulty AF/MF switch and rotating the aperture ring in MF mode elicits no change in aperture at all - bummer The seller has agreed to a return.

Anyway into the garden I go to get a few practice shots in with the 100/2 on the Sony A7 .... I'm going to love this lens, can't wait to use it for landscape and portraits too

Grey and overcast isn't a bad thing for macro but it did affect the handheld shutter speeds when trying to shoot at f8 (and I couldn't be bothered to bring out the macro rails & flashes), most of these are taken at f2.8 (the aperture doesn't show up in the EXIF). So here are some shots of the smallest flowers I could find :

ca.100% crop

ca. 100% crop

I combined 36 images (each @ 12MP) to create a very large panorama (~135MP).. here's a scaled down version:

Gower Horses

Went to Whitford Point, near Llanmadoc in North Gower yesterday evening. Will have to allow more time next time to get closer to the lighthouse which is the last cast iron lighthouse standing in Europe.

Came across these horses, wild horses which there are plenty of in the Gower area.

Some rather nice and varied shots on this page. Kevin you have some great flower macros there. itshimitis -- the horse shots are very well seen, and I am a big fan of #10 from the last series -- very clean lines, and I like that the two contrails are noticeably different colors.

I was up in Vancouver, BC for the first time over the weekend, and I took the Nikon out for a little spin. Here's the city skyline from Stanley Park:

Nicely muted colours.

The Zeiss 100 looks a wee bit special

One with the 24G 1.4 at dawn yesterday. First time in six or seven weeks I've been able to get out for myself and I thought at one stage I was in for a cracking morning but it didn't work out as well as it promised at one stage.

Very nice atmosphere in that one, Mark. Really clean editing with a nice balance between enhanced detail and what looks like a slightly downplayed level of local contrast.

We created this photo at the end of their wedding reception.. it was a shot that I had thought about for months prior to their wedding. Ambient light + a wirelessly triggered speedlight to separate the couple from the background. I wish it was less cloudy so that the stars and the mountains would be more visible but we only had this one chance. Still a pretty epic photo for the couple imho:

Nice indeed; however, they are so small. Is the picture of them or the landscape. Perhaps they are more recognizable on a very large print.

For me, it's lovely, but no cigar. If you had the whole of their bodies, it would be stunning. As it stands, for me it looks like a near miss. Wonderful idea, but not quite there for me
